I'll never forgive Kevin Spacey!
Robert Altman fans are familiar with the story of how in 2006, months before he died of cancer, Altman mounted the play Resurrection Blues at the Old Vic theatre in London. Kevin Spacey was at that time the artistic director of The Old Vic and had some control over the productions there. When Resurrection Blues opened to poor reviews and disappointing box office, Spacey and Altman began to get into heated exchanges about changing certain aspects of the production. Altman would direct his actors one way, with Spacey privately telling the cast to play it a different way. Spacey had once said famously in Swimming With Sharks "Altman couldn't direct his way out of a paper bag!" Evidently, this represented his real contempt for the legendary director. Spacey was so abusive toward Altman he earned his reputation as the "Norman Bates of Show Business." It is rather sad Altman was already dying by this point and his last creative effort was an unpleasant experience for him. Spacey treated him as if he were a child, showing no professional respect toward him. As enjoyable as he can oftentimes be as an actor, Spacey's treatment of Altman was so despicable, I have not forgiven him these past ten years.
