I'll never forgive Kevin Spacey!

Robert Altman fans are familiar with the story of how in 2006, months before he died of cancer, Altman mounted the play Resurrection Blues at the Old Vic theatre in London. Kevin Spacey was at that time the artistic director of The Old Vic and had some control over the productions there. When Resurrection Blues opened to poor reviews and disappointing box office, Spacey and Altman began to get into heated exchanges about changing certain aspects of the production. Altman would direct his actors one way, with Spacey privately telling the cast to play it a different way. Spacey had once said famously in Swimming With Sharks "Altman couldn't direct his way out of a paper bag!" Evidently, this represented his real contempt for the legendary director. Spacey was so abusive toward Altman he earned his reputation as the "Norman Bates of Show Business." It is rather sad Altman was already dying by this point and his last creative effort was an unpleasant experience for him. Spacey treated him as if he were a child, showing no professional respect toward him. As enjoyable as he can oftentimes be as an actor, Spacey's treatment of Altman was so despicable, I have not forgiven him these past ten years.

Robert Altman: An Oral Biography goes into detail on the matter. That's the best book on Altman that I've read.

There's always two sides to every story and fight. "It takes two to tango" so to speak.

Kevin Spacey must be devastated not to have had your forgiveness for 10 years.

But if Kevin was willing to let Altman work on a play in a theater that he ran, then he must have had some reverence for Altman, at least in the beginning. It's likely that the 'heated debates' were a direct result of the struggles of the production - you mention yourself that it got bad reviews and not enough box office. Why wouldn't both parties try and 'fix' the production? And Altman was a big boy by then, he could have just walked away from Kevin and his theater altogether, if he was so upset by his (allegedly) bad treatment.

And I'm sure poor Kevin is up at night, sick about the whole thing. This post is garbage
