Mira Sorvino betrayed Woody Allen and stabbed him in the back

Woddy is innocent.

Most people who condemn Allen know nothing about his current wife, or the molestation accusation. In the case of his wife, she was not his daughter, or his step-daughter, or his adopted daughter. She was his girlfriend's adopted daughter, and they never lived together as a family. She was not a minor. She was a consenting adult. In the molestation case, an exhaustive police investigation involving detectives and child psychologists came to the conclusion that Allen had done nothing, that the child had lied, and that she had been coached to lie by her mother, Farrow.

reply

True. And all those stars like Mira Sorvino who became stars and won Academy Awards because of Woody Allen that now cancel him are a cowardly disgrace. They find it easier to go along with cancel culture than to stand up bravely to the lies like Alec Baldwin, Diane Keaton and many other heroes have!

reply

Although the odds are he was grooming her when she was still a minor. The odds are high that she finally just fell for him when she turned 18. Given the situation and the 35 year age gap, it was pervy no matter how it happened.

Sorvino was dealt a bad hand with Weinstein ... but to take it out on Woody Allen show a complete lack of character and integrity. When Ronan Farrow pointed Sorvino to the public information it sounds like she did not bother to look at it, instead attacking to it because it would aid her to feel stronger about outing Weinstein. She probably had more to say about Quentin Tarantino but did not for some reason.

reply

I hate Quentin, and all his films except for Pulp Fiction. Yes, it's telling the Mira cancelled an innocent man, but keeps quiet about Quentin. Another one that is despicable is the overrated actress Natalie Portman, who also cancelled Woody. Disgraceful! And Kate Winslet cowered to pressure and did an about face. And even one of my faves Michael Caine jumped on the bandwagon. Sick!

reply

" Natalie Portman, who also cancelled Woody"

I thought "cancelling" was a group thing what did Portman do exactly?

Given that woody is retired ( i think) , can he even be cancelled? or just besmirched ?

reply

Well Woody himself doesn't even care. But these cretins want to cancel him from the culture. Of course they won't succeed, an 100 years from now history will show his significance and the false charges totally forgotten along with evil liar Dylan.
By the way, I love Woody's early stuff, i.e. '60s-'70s, but lost interest in the '80s. I don't like his serious films (Interiors, Matchpoint, etc.)

reply

You should see "Curse Of The Jade Scorpion". I like all of his work. At least I know any Woody movie I can watch all the way through. I am looking forward to Rifkins Festival if it ever gets released.

I don't know if Dylan is a liar, but she is certainly mentally troubled, and who has more to do with that ... 10 minutes of Woody Allen or a lifetime of Mia Farrow who drove 3 other adopted children to suicide? I think that is a short and precise question that tells it all.

reply

True. Okay, I'll check that out.

reply

Curse of the Jade Scorpion is pretty funny. Got some crumby reviews, but the reviewers have basically been saying, "Woody's work has been in a slump since X' for ages, so who takes them seriously?

Personally, I love Match Point and think it's one of his best, but I guess if you're coming to a Woody Allen film looking for some good comic turns, Match Point isn't going to scratch that itch.

Still, the man can still roll out the funnies. To Rome with Love has some hysterical stuff, everything from quasi-absurdism to satire. It has a touching/serious side, but it's mostly fun. I really liked his Amazon show, too (A Crisis in Six Scenes), and it's also underrated (even if Miley Cyrus isn't all that great in it). Whatever Works is great, too (Larry David was born to be Woody. Wait...is that right...?) Plus, he's got a couple that aren't roll-'em-in-the-aisles, but are still fun, oft-funny, and full of whimsy. I refer to Midnight in Paris and Magic in the Moonlight.

reply

I like pretty much all of them. Cassandra's Dream is probably a low point, but it is still better than 90% of other movies. "Curse of the Jade Scorpion" is hilarious.

Another one, which Woody just stars in, is "Fading Gigolo" which is really hilarious too.

reply

The worst Woody Allen films are - to me - at least on par with most other films. They're all entertaining and interesting in some way.

I liked Fading Gigolo a lot. But I think my favourite Woody Allen film that he didn't write/direct is probably The Front.

reply

I shake my fist at Amazon for their burying Rifkin's Festival. If they don't want anything to do with it, they could at least have the decency to let it go and allow Allen to find a distributor with a spine.

Ever watch Curse of the Jade Scorpion in black and white? Give it a shot, it's great! Woody's cinematography (well, okay, Zhao Fei's cinematography) is so good and such a good version of classic cinema that I forgot I was watching a modern (ish) film. It really felt like a '30s or '40s hidden gem.

My best guess (and that's all anybody can really do is guess) is that Dylan believes it, but she was brainwashed by Mia Farrow, who I think embarked on this revenge quest because she perceives Allen's relationship with Soon-Yi as incest and paedophilia. She's frustrated that she considers it those things, yet it is not legally either, so she fabricated an incident which would potentially see Allen receive the punishment she thinks he deserves. That's my theory, anyway.

> I shake my fist at Amazon for their burying Rifkin's Festival.

I am not sure it is totally Amazon, but I'd rent it or buy it if it was online.

I own "Curse of the Jade Scorpion" and think it is hilarious. It was in color.

I would not even guess what is going on in Dylan's head, but what comes out of her mouth has not made sense or been consistent, and even if the worst happened to her relative to Woody Allen which I do not believe , to hang on to that and talk about not being able to look at a train 30 years later, and breaking into tears. I am uncomfortable being so cold about it, but I think her problems are of her own making.

Meanwhile Woody and SoonYi have moved on with their lives and appear very happy and adopted 2 children ... having past yet another investigation.

reply

My understanding was that Amazon was refusing to release it.

Oh, the version of Curse of the Jade Scorpion I saw was supposed to be in colour, I just turned the colour on the TV off. If you own the film, you have the black and white version, too!

Yeah, Woody and Soon-Yi adopted children...neither of whom were preyed on. He's had Hollywood power and money for decades. If this guy is a predator, he's got the lowest batting average of any predator in the history of perverts.

reply

He seems to be a sexual opportunist from my reading, but not a predator and not a pedophile.

"Cancelling" is sort of a group thing, but anybody who's feeling woke and frisky can call for a "cancel" or say that they're "cancelling", which basically just means they want some brownie points.

Woody's not retired, but I don't think they can really cancel him because he doesn't give a darn.

I highly recommend his memoirs, by the way.
