Would there have been all this fuss if Idris Elba was nominated ??

Oscar would still be 95% white.

Would a Netflix film even be admissible? I don't think so.... It has to be a theatrical release.

reply

It was eligible and I thought "Beast" would be up for best picture. Somehow that whole movie got overlooked.

Yes, if anyone has got any reason to call for a boycott it's Idris Elba. But clearly he's got too much class for that. He'll quite rightly speak out about the lack of opportunity for black actors, which is the grassroots problem, but he won't publicly question the supposed 'racist' mindset of the Academy, who one could easily believe chose to nominate the films and filmmakers that they considered most deserving, irrespective of political considerations.

reply

agreed... the people who thought it was elibigle are thinking of the Golden Globes.

Ugh. 

Just for the record. It was eligible. It was released in 31 theatres in the qualifying region for oscars. The only reason they released it in select theatres was so it could qualify.
I'm not much on rear-window ethics.

Thank you... Did not know it was released like that... Cool strategy by Netflix then. If thats the case, then yes, i'd consider his exclusion a snub.
