A smugness that shows , His true nature?

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it's interesting that smugness can appear on a person's face. Or it just how his face is contructed that makes it look that way?

Or maybe you've just got an inferiority complex

I agree, some people have a certain personality stamped on their face whether that's who they are or not. I don't know about Slater but he does have a very smug face.

Another example is Lauren Bacall who started to have a resting bishy face by her later 20s. She had a certain aura of appealing and sexy snootyness about her in her late teens to mid 20s, but it turned into an ugly bishy quality by her late 20s. I'm not saying that's who she was personally, it's her face that started to have that look.

Another male example is Christopher Plummmer who had that sexy strict manly haughtiness in his youth but by his 60s, his face started to have a mean look to it, similar to what Bacall had.

Funny you mentioned both of those actors. I recently heard stories about both being very rude or mean to people.

I think it's more of a mischievous twinkle, like a joke he's aware of that he's not letting on about. It's a bit raffish and rakish and I think he makes good use of it.
