Wish he didn't collaborate with DiCaprio so much

It's no coincidence that since collaborating with DiCaprio he has made almost no all time classic movies. The Departed is the closest but that's more of an ensemble piece. The Wolf of Wall Street is decent but also an over the top joyride that teenagers seem to think is the greatest movie of all time.

DiCaprio just isn't on the level of prime De Niro. Repeat viewings of his performances don't hold up. I wish Scorsese picked someone with a bit more talent after he and De Niro parted ways. Maybe more regular collaborations with Daniel Day Lewis or Ed Norton.

I can imagine him acting in a bullyish way, What a geezer.

I wish they didn't work together as much as they do as well, not because either one is inferior to the other, but because I feel like they both produce better work apart.

I thought that DiCaprio did some of the best work of his career in The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street - but was completely at sea in The Aviator and Gangs of New York. I don’t remember Shutter Island well enough to comment on his performance there (I disliked the film the one time I saw it). No, Leo is not on the level of prime years De Niro, but few actors are. DiCaprio. I do credit Leo for always aiming for ambitious projects. It doesn’t always work out for me, but I don’t think he holds the blame for Scorsese’s latter/day career ups and downs. We should be thankful that a man in his late seventies is still working so hard and turning out films which, while not great, are usually at least interesting.

DiCaprio lacks gravity and always seems twelve, which makes him a bit of a limp protagonist. That said, he’s a talented actor, always delivers a committed performance, and was especially good in Shutter Island.

But yeah, it’s crazy that De Niro left Scorsese for 25 years to go make cash-grab ‘comedies’. I’m sure the money was attractive but Christ, have some self-respect and at least do a couple of Scorseses per decade.

Thank god we got The Irishman.

Yeah, his DiCaprio obsession has grown tiresome. And in spite of his acting talent, DiCaprio is a perpetual teenager, no matter how much facial hair he has.
