Most of his movies bombed

Arnie does have about 10 successful movies but man, about 20(TWENTY!) didn't do very well.
Red Sonja
Raw Deal
Last Action Hero
Collateral Damage
Last Stand
Escape Plan
Sabotage
End of Days
The 5th day
Aftermath
Maggie May
Killing Gunther
The Villian
Red Heat

It's the 6th Day. I liked that one. Actually I like a lot of the ones you mentioned. Minus Sabotage which I could not finish due to the other protagonists who all acted like immature 14 year olds. I never saw Killing Gunther, Maggie, or the Villain.

reply

I ALSO LIKE THE 6TH DAY..SABOTAGE IS ALRIGHT.KILLING GUNTHER IS COOL BUT IF YOU THOUGHT THE OTHER PROTAGANISTS WERE IMMATURE IN SABOTAGE...STAY AWAY FROM GUNTHER...MAGGIE IS GOOD BUT SUPER SLOW...THE VILLAIN IS SCWARZENEGGER AS A DAMN COWBOY...ITS A MUST SEE JUST BECAUSE OF WHAT IT IS.

reply

I did like The 6th Day but sometimes I still get it confused with End of Days!

reply

I OWN AND ENJOY EVERY SINGLE SCHWARZENEGGER FLICK...I LITERALLY MEAN EVERY SINGLE ONE TOO.

reply

Does that include "Hercules in New York (1970)"?

reply

IT DOES.

reply

How about his first appearance in a real Hollywood film The Long Goodbye (1973)?

reply

THE LONG GOODBYE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES ACTUALLY...NOT DUE TO ARNOLD THOUGH.

reply

How about The Villain? That's a fun movie.

"He doesn't need to be watched. He needs to be looked after."

reply

I also enjoy that one.

reply

COWBOY SWARZENEGGER...KIRK DOUGLAS,ANN MARGARET...A MINOR CLASSIC.

reply

Not doing well is pretty irrelevant to me. I like a fair amount of those movies, which is why I watch movies, to like them.

reply

And to be fair Querelle, some movies that were box office failures got a lot of love later. Like The Thing, Shawshank Redemption, and Boondock Saints.

reply

For sure. Box office has never been important to me. I'm not a studio exec, and I don't get why it would matter to anyone else.

reply

Out of those that I’ve seen: Raw Deal, Sabotage and End of Days were really bad. I actually enjoyed Escape Plan

reply

It was all downhill after Batman & Robin.

reply

Yes, I think you're right I remember going to see either End of Days or The 6th Day and not getting excited at all, I didn't really follow the plot and just waited until it was over.

reply

that an Austrian body-builder with a thick German accent had the level of success he did is remarkable in itself.

reply

Thick AUSTRIAN accent.

reply

I agree with you; I think Arnold Schwarzenegger (the last name itself is difficult to market and unwieldy) is an overachiever, considering that he wasn't really taken that seriously as an actor in the beginning. Just looking at his acting & films, I feel he came a long way.

reply

He was the top movie star in the world for about a decade. I'd say the last decade he's been just coasting on his name because he can't run around ripping people in half at 60+ years old.

Of those earlier movies, I believe Raw Deal and Red Heat were pretty big movies. I am old enough to remember when they were out. Last Action Hero is actually great but it went up against Jurassic Park and got clobbered.

reply

Last Action Hero seemed to be where it all started to go wrong with Arnie..with Batman & Robin just a few years away to make it even worse!

reply

Last Action Hero is way better than Batman & Robin

reply

Cos Jurassic Park was better, much more famous, and much more influential than a dumb action flick.

reply

Most of those are before or after his prime. End of Days did well, I wouldn't call it a flop.
