Can't this guy lose his accent?

He's supposed to be an actor, isn't he? Lot's of other European actors manage to speak English without an accent. My ex is from Sweden, she came here when she was 25 and she had virtually no accent within about 20 years and she's not even an actor.

It's totally unrealistic for most of the roles that he plays. Remember when he played the governor of California (sorry, I don't remember the film)? Like the governor of California is going to have an Austrian accent.

Well whoopee for your girlfriend. His accent is what helped him catapult to fame. Why should he lose it now and get the usual boring and generic American accent.

It's his bodybuilding that made him famous. The accent makes him seems cartoonish and is a distraction. I guess he fits into the category of "personalities" rather than actors. Like Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and The Rock. Some people like them.

Make no mistake: Arnold keeping his accent was an intentional decision on his part and a masterstroke of marketing, just like the decision to keep his last name.

Think of all the faceless action stars from the '80s who were practically interchangeable. Arnold's accent and name made him stand out. You will NEVER forget the guy.

And no one should really care if his accent fit the roles he took. His entire career is ludicrous, over the top and cartoonish. He's never been a serious actor...he's a movie star and a businessman. Given that, I can forgive how his accent never made much sense.

It's not like Daniel Day-Lewis or Christian Bale using a completely inappropriate accent for a role. Arnold's films are pure dumb action spectacle...just shut your brain off and enjoy the ride.

Clearly, The OP is from the younger generations.

Well, if the '73' in his name represents his birth year, he's five years OLDER than me. He's either a sheltered individual, or he's trolling.

reply

Why should he? It's worked for him so far. It seems like you're the only one bothered by it.

his accent is fake, well the thickness of it anyway. he sounds a lot more clear in real life. it's all part of his image. he admitted to playing up his accent because it's part of his image. personally, i think it's stupid
