Why did she keep Chris Sarandon's last name after they divorced?

It wouldn't have hurt her image as a celebrity if she changed back to her maiden name because she wasn't all that famous back then.

You're move, creep

probably has a nice ring to the name.

Exactly Susan Sarandon has a certain ring to it and sounds pretty and "Hollywood". Actress Della Reese first name was actually Dellareese she just split it up. And classic singer Etta James real name was Jamesetta and she turn it around. I think the name is nice and she probably did too thats why she kept it. People often forget Julia Roberts name was Julie Roberts she changed it to Julia.

Maybe she thought of it as HER name.

Probably because she likes the name. I kept my ex-husband's last name because I like it & I don't like him. It's a big hassle to change your name, so what's the big deal if she kept his name?

She was famous, and had been known to casting directors and studios by that name professionally for over a decade. She'd been on two soap operas and made major releases (THE GREAT WALDO PEPPER, THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT, PRETTY BABY, KING OF THE GYPSIES), cult movies (THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW), and respected indie films (JOE) during the time of her marriage. Just because she wasn't a big box office draw doesn't mean she wasn't well known.

An actor changing their name mid career is kind of unproductive and dippy...

Demi Moore & Tina Turner did the same thing and Tina hated her Ex.

Awww, I wondered this too and found this response to that question from Ms. Sarandon herself:

Susan decided to keep "Sarandon" as her surname, despite being urged to change it for the sake of her image because, in her words, "You were considered more available if you weren't married." She held onto the name because she considered Chris to be partially responsible for her entire career. "The name came from a dear friend, who happened to be my husband."

That is so sweet and awesome! 💗
