A really bad actor

I find him a cringe. How does he get work????

reply

Looks alone.

I had seen some of his earlier films (Bill & Ted, Dangerous Liaisons, My Own Private Idaho, etc.), but a few years back finally saw some of his later films ("serious" films where he is the lead), and I was simply appalled at what a horrendously bad actor he is. Watch "Sweet November" for example. At the end, when he is supposed to declare his love for Charlize Theron, his delivery was abysmal (if she can't get a guy to melt into a blob oozing passion, who can?). If you love someone you are animated and joyful. He wasn't wooden; he was petrified. Ever since I simply cannot watch him.

reply

Directos need to know how to use him, he was good in speed, point break, devils advocate.

He was especially good as an asshole in the gift.

reply

But he is charismatic and likable, and his idiosyncratic acting style seems to suit most of his roles.

reply

No such thing as bad acting when you get right down to it.

If a person hates the actor then they are a bad actor in everything they do. And vice versa.

reply

I'm sorry, that's just dumb.

reply

I have liked him in almost everything I've seen him do. Different strokes, for different folks.

reply

I tried to watch Branagh's Much Ado. The moment Reeves opened his mouth I had to turn it off. So now here it is, years later, and I thought maybe I should give him a chance in something less challenging. So I started John Wick.
Same thing. The moment he opens his mouth, the show is over.

I do admit I have only seen a few of his movies but I have always wondered why he’s such a popular actor.

reply

He's a bad actor when he speaks. He's a great movie star who has the look of a movie star. He's a nice guy overall, but I'd only watch him I'm action movies where dialogue is at a minimum.

reply

I think he's pretty good in a minimalist kind of way. He seems to take a limited range of roles but that's a strategy that's worked well for a lot of stars over the years. The only film I've not enjoyed him in is 47 Ronin which was just confused and dumb. But one of these days he'll do something completely against type and every one will suddenly be saying - wow, this guy can act!

reply

you can argue that he is a voilent promoter in john wick but i prefer matrix ,its not beacuse of keanu that all the voilence is going on,you should blame bruce lee.he was the jack ass that started voilent crap.he started it all bruce lee was biggest voilence promoter in history forget his philosophy and movies he was a voilent man all ,these and those movies you see recent or old.that came after he died that showed voilence.its becasue of him its lees fault..he sucked.

keanu is a good man..bruce lee is a bad man.disgusting.

reply

He's actually better as a real person (like in interviews, etc) than he is at acting.
