I miss him.

I don't know why I can't shake his loss. Many celebrities and real life friends have died since but I still can't get over how sad his death makes me. He was such a great actor and the potential that was there is amazing. I think a part of my recent sadness over his loss stems from dating a younger woman (she's 25) and finding out she had NEVER HEARD OF HIM. Since then I've found out that is pretty common with that generation. I really thought he'd be a James Dean, never forgotten sort of thing.

Sad mess of an ending to a real promising guy

It was really a sad thing. I still think of him. Hard to date someone that has no idea what you are referring to. I get that.

In better news, I have since shown her Stand By Me, My Own Private Idaho and Explorers and SBM became one of her all time favorites and My Own Private Idaho literally became her VERY favorite movie of all time. And yes, she admits his acting and charisma is a big part of her love for those films. So, even if they haven't heard of him, people in their twenties, once they see him, get exactly what us Gen X types are going on about.

Glad it all worked out, lol

Well, it all worked out in a 1990s arthouse movie sort of way. Had it worked out like a 2017 Disney owned flick, we would have River come back from the dead and become the biggest star of all time and get some lifetime achievement award presented by all the actors he inspired and brought to you by Mickey Mouse.

Off-topic: How do you know when a new post is made on a forum? Like when I posted here yesterday, you must have been notified a post was made, right? Or did you just stumble across this forum? I really REALLY hope Amazon never takes this place down, as it's the only thing remotely like the IMDb boards were and also acts as a bit of an archive for them (which is why I'm worried Amazon will send in the cease and desists).

Lol yes Mickey Mouse presenting,,very funny.
When I signed in to MovieChat I saw that River Pheonix was trending on the top of the page. I clicked on his picture and it took me to this page.
I would not think anyone would take down this site, as it was created by Jim , on his own I believe, and he was the one who archived all the threads from IMDB.. I really hope this site stays safe.

also, I never get notified in my email, that a person replied to any of my posts, so every so often I sign in, and see the little red bell in top right hand corner telling me there are replies. So there are glitches here but all in all I love this site.
