He suffers from depression.

I read an article about it where he says in an interview that he suffers with and battles depression daily.

We shouldn't idolise these actors, man! We don't know what they're secretly battling.

You are confusing personality disorders with the mental illness of depression. Depression affects people of all walks of life and financial status. It is not about being frustrated, or sad, or egomaniacal. Depression does more than affect one's mood, it affects one's physical well being and ability to cope. Lots of famous people have suffered from it as well as everyday people. They report that far from being in a bad mood, they feel nothing, not sad or happy, worried or mad. They lay in bed unable to summon the strength to get up. They become isolated, especially when friends and family give up on them. And yes, they often self medicate with food or alcohol or drugs.

Ryan has said in interviews over many years that he regularly sees a therapist and has at times been on major medications for the depression that runs in his family. It's why he works out regularly without fail since he finds that activity helps mitigate his symptoms.

Being human comes with a hefty load of serious baggage.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.
