Looking for Richard

Anyone else love this movie? It's maybe my favorite version of Richard III. I know it's more a documentary about trying as an actor to understand Shakespeare and make it accessible to people, but I still really love this as a Shakespeare adaptation. I don't picture Olivier or anyone as Richard, I picture Pacino now. Same with Baldwin as Clarence, Spacey as Buckingham, Ryder as Lady Anne, etc. Weird, huh? I think this would be a great film to show in school - it would get kids interested and talking about other Shakespeare plays as well I think.

Too bad this film looks like it's out of print. You can buy it digitally off of Amazon, but I'm old fashioned and I like an actual copy of the film. Hopefully it gets re-released soon.

It's pretty wonderful and the scenes they act out make you want to see a fully staged production with this cast. Especially the Lady Anne scene which is tremendous.

You probably learn more about Al Pacino, as an actor and how his mind works, from this than any other single film. It's a must-see for anyone who is a fan or who is curious about what makes him special or how his mind works about acting and Art.

Yeah I ABSOLUTELY love it. I thought it should have been nominated and won a DOCUMENTARY Oscar. He won the DIRECTORS GUILD that year. The only thing I DON'T like about it, is there's a particular ACTOR in it for whom I am NOT fond of, and I wish he wasn't there.
