I've seen him as George Smiley, Sid Vicious, Rosencrantz, Dracula, Lee Harvey Oswald. He gave devilishly delicious performancances as Stansfield and Zodd but it's his lesser roles that I find the best, Mason Verger was sublime but there's a moment as Sirius Black, in Order of the Phoenix that's truly beautiful. When at the table and Harry wants to join and fight. The subtle look of pride and acknowledgement in just a twitch of his eye, I know it's hardly on anyone's radar but it gets me, every time.

Lee Harvey Oswald

reply

He was amazing as Mason Verger, completely unrecognisable, he's the best actor I've ever seen (at least in my opinion).

reply

Sid Vicious.

reply

He was great in that! I think it's amazing how he is able to transform himself into all these different characters.

reply

Yes, he is such a versatile actor and doesn't get the recognition or awards that he deserves.

reply

I can't believe he's never won an Oscar and I don't think he's ever won a BAFTA for his acting, just for Nil by Mouth (which is an amazing film!)

reply

Is that the one with Kathy Burke in it? She's a great actress also. Think she is related to Oldman also.

reply

That's the one.. I didn't know he was related to Kathy Burke, I know Laila Morse who plays Kathy Burkes mum in the film is his sister and she played Mo in Eastenders.

reply

No, it appears they are not related but they have known each other since they were teens. Don't know why I thought that they were, unless i heard or read it somewhere many years ago.

reply

It makes sense that they probably grew up in the same areas and would know each other. I think that was her best film (that I've seen anyway).. Have you also seen The Firm where he plays a football hooligan.

reply

Best thing I ever saw her do was a sketch with Roland Rivron in a swimming pool when she was pretending to be pregnant on some show many, many years ago. Was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

No, because I don't watch anything about football because I have a particular hate for that sport....

reply

I'm not a fan of football myself but recommend that film if you get a chance.

reply

No offence but even the very thought of anything to do with football is like fingernails down a blackboard to me. I would gladly watch any other film of his you recommend though.
