'I never thought I'd go near the role of Churchill'

Gary spoke at a fundraising event on January 3 in London, The Actors Centre's "Off the Record" series, so it's a pretty new article :)

The actor also spoke about how he is trying to raise funds to direct a new film. "I don't want to make another film for the sake of it," he explained, after saying he was aiming to gather £27 million for the movie. "[The cost is down to] the time it takes," he said.
I guess he's speaking about The flying horse.

Thanks for posting :)

Re "Flying Horse", there hasn't been any suggestion re his trying to make something else, has there? But one can't be completely sure that he hasn't involved himself with something else, or even written another something else himself. In truth, though, if it is "Flying Horse" I think his quoted $27M is just too much. That subject matter is just not an obvious enough money spinner to attract that level of investment. Around $15M and it might be a different issue, but $27M? If that's the minimum he's really requiring to get it made, then I hope I'm wrong, but I think he'll go on being disappointed.

I'll keep fingers crossed too though.

No, it's clearly Flying Horse, he says he's tried to make it for about 5 years and it's 19th century, it's period and it scares people who would give the money. And he also talks about the differences of shooting a film quickly like 30 days or for longer like 60 days and a movie's costs usually depend on the time it takes to make and now we are in the age when TV productions are made very quickly. And he would rather not make a movie than make it badly for the sake of it. At least this is what I remember of from the podcast. I think he doesn't mention if it has moved forward. But the photographer who has worked with Gary as a consultant (or something like that) on the project, suggested 2-3 months ago on Facebook that it's "picking up again". Maybe now that he is done with the Churchill movie, he'll do some directing.
