Top 10 of greatest male actors ?

Jack rarely failed to meet up to expectations, what do you think?

reply

Okay, who are the other 9 then? I nominate Peter O'Toole for one.

reply

I'm not the OP, but because I'm bored...

Jack Nicholson
Peter O'Toole
James Stewart
Cary Grant
Dustin Hoffman
George C. Scott
Marlon Brando
Al Pacino
Henry Fonda
Paul Newman

reply

Well, that's a good list, no doubt, but I think I'd try to find some more room for great British actors like Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hardy, and Robert Duvall. (Okay, well that last one's not British, but who made the Brits king anyway?)

Also, aren't we skewed a bit native English-speaking here? What about Choi Min Sik, Marcello Mastroianni, Vincent Cassel (to name a few)?

reply

There's some great names here to be sure, Paul Newman is pretty high on my list. Deniro and Pacino are def in the conversation even though they've had a pretty rough 20 years but they're back in form with The Irishman.

reply

The Irishman is shit.

reply

You missed Duvall

reply

He doesn't have the benefit of dying young. Had he done so, he would be lionized, sainted. But as he aged we realized this might be as good as it gets.
He worked a lot and took on a lot of challenging projects, like The Crossing Guard and even earlier The Passenger. He's not pivotal in Terms Of Endearment but that is a very personal film for a lot of people. I'm not a big fan of The Shining but that must have taken a lot of energy to perform. Guy is pretty impressive, even if his later work suffers a little.

reply

Lionized. Don't hear that word enough.
