What happened to the McConaissance?

Starting in 2011, wasn't he supposed to have a big comeback? It seems like that lasted for a couple years but he's started to get back into old habits. Interstellar got a somewhat divisive response but at least it was a box office hit. Then there were The Sea of Trees and Free State of Jones, which both bombed. What's happening here?

I think Gold is supposed to be good. Plus he's in Sing, if that counts. Also if he does True Detective again, I'm pretty sure that will put him back on top.

I heard Sing is just okay. It'll probably be a big hit though. That being said, most animated films don't usually have any effect on the actor's careers, even if they do well. For example, at the end of the day, most people we'll know Louis C.K. more from his stand-up comedy and Louie than they will from The Secret Life of Pets and that movie almost made a billion dollars (that being said, there are exceptions to the rule, like Frozen and Aladdin).

I wasn't implying Sing was anything but a nice paycheck for him. I mentioned it because as you said, it's going to be a big hit. I haven't seen any reviews about Gold, but at least he is out selling it.

Terms like that are why 95% of the population hates this massive douchebag.

Except 95% of people don't.....

All actors have up and down periods. Personally I never fully bought into the McConaissance in the first place. He had a good run but I think it was nothing more than a good moment. I'd be surprised if he got another Oscar nomination.

The McConaissance was more about him doing interesting projects instead of wasting his talent on non-stop romantic comedies. Just because his recent films haven't been huge box office hits doesn't mean he isn't doing interesting material.

I am you and what I see is me.

True, but I been thinking of this myself. I saw him on the front page doing another film, strangely another stoner comedy, and it hit me when was the last time I even went to see a film of his and that was Interstellar back in 2014. Since then there has really been nothing he's made thats been appealing. I think he had a good run from 2011 to 2014 with Buyer's Dallas Club, Lincoln Lawyer True Detective and Mud. But looks like the hype has fallen again. He does better work than all the silly rom coms but he's no longer the it boy he was turning into a few years ago either.
