Favorite role besides Evita

I loved Madonna in Evita. I consider it to be her best role. But besides Evita, I loved her in Dick Tracy as Breathless Mahoney. In my opinion, that was the first movie I thought she proved herself in as an actress.

reply

I don't like Evita, so it has to be Desperately Seeking Susan for me.

reply

You may dislike Evita but her acting was amazing there

reply

Its the songs I don't care for not her perfomance.

reply

OK, I understand you now. Evita is one of my least favorite Madonna albums but her vocals were really amazing there. You Must Love Me is a very touching song too. I'm not a big fan of the album but respect her for being risky. Even powerful vocalists don't usually record a Broadway score. Madonna did

reply

I haven't much to say about her acting career, and I like some of her hits but don't consider myself a fan.
But today is her birthday, and some nit-wit on NPR said she's Italian.
She was born in Bay City, Michigan, fer gosh sakes. (I'm from Michigan as well, and one year younger.)
Haven't seen Evita. One of these days.

reply

hmm Madonna Ciccone.

Her father's parents were immigrants from Pacentro, Italy.

Sounds Italian to me.

reply

Send her back ! Send her back !

reply

Why did you find it hard to believe she was Italian in the first place?

*actually she's half-Italian as her mother was French-Canadian

reply

Evita was great. After that I'd have to say Desperately Seeking Susan. Body of Evidence was 'interesting'.

reply

Body of Evidence was very kinky with a lot of nudity. I also didn't think her acting was that good in it. She won me over in Dick Tracy. I remember the scene in Dick Tracy when they're on the dock and she's trying to tell him how much she wants him and she wants him to admit he wants her too and he won't.

snepts (97), I read she's Italian on her father's side. On her mother's side, she's French-Canadian.

reply

I didn't say it was good, I said 'interesting'. I think it was strictly a big pay day for her.

reply

I loved her in Bloodhounds of Broadway (1989), Dick Tracy (1990), A League of Their Own (1992), Dangerous Game (1993) and even The Next Best Thing (2000)

reply

Forgot about League of Their Own. Also a great performance.

reply

Agreed!

Body of Evidence

reply

Many ppl hate her in Body of Evidence but I like it

reply

Yep I really liked it. I know people with shame me for this but I liked Swept Away also.

reply

I'm sure, madonna didn't even try to act because her husband was a director. She just had fun. I found some really entertaining moments in Swept Away plus the final Madonna scenes were acted perfectly well. She overacts in comedy movies but her dramatic skills aren't bad at all

reply

Hmm...that's strange because I liked her as Nikki Finn in Who's That Girl. Very cute.

reply

Body of Evidence was under-rated since at the time it was, uh, basically just a Basic Instinct rip off. However, she played her part to perfection.

reply

Many Madonna fans secretly love Body of Evidence the most when it comes to her filmography. I love it too despite all similarities with Basic Instinct

reply

Agreed! What age did you first see it? I feel like that may have something to do with it. I would've been 14-15 so sneaking to watch it late night on the movie channel is a great memory. haha

reply

Good question, I was like 13 y.o. Those sex moments were intense but even then I knew what to expect because I was a huge Madonna fan. She is so beautiful in this film. I know, her character wasn't good but I really felt sorry for her death

reply

Yeah, I actually think this era through to Bedtime Stories around '95 or so is the best she looked. Even by today's standards they kinda pushed the edginess with the sex scenes. The wax stuff, the handcuffed anal with her grinning, oral in the public carpark, etc. I haven't seen it for a while, need to grab it on bluray!

reply

DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN AND A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN ARE HER ONLY PASSABLE WORKS THAT I CAN THINK OF.

reply

Bloodhounds of Broadway? Dick Tracy? Dangerous Game? Evita? Girl 6?

reply

NO.

reply

I love her as BreathLess also but Im going to go with swept away though it was panned.
