Err... no. He talked big, but that's all he did.

He kept talking about experimenting and wanting to do different kind of films. Yet, he made a crappy prequel trilogy, and ended up being bitter, while keep complaining how he's not allowed to experiment.

If he had such great ideas, he would put his own money and make films - low budget films are not expensive to make, if you have good ideas. He has no ideas.

Still - once upon a time, a long, long time ago, in another galaxy far far away, he did have good ideas and he did experiment - ever since then though, he's only been bitter after having no decent new ideas.

Anyways, he made his money - let him die in peace.

Low budget films are generally considered around $2M and under.

Quite a few out there that turned $1M into $100M+.

Yeah. I thought that after I posted that you were prompting Maximmm for an explanation heh.

I take it back - with 5.5 billion dollars in his possession, he doesn't need to limit himself to small budget films. He can make 10 Star Wars films and still have more than half of his money intact.

I mean, WTF is that? He keeps complaining about some sort of invisible big brother limiting his creativity, when he has more money than most 'big brothers' out there and can finance more films than most studios can.

I think he has some sort of victim mentality playing out, while having the means to make ANY film he wants with ANY actor, ANY script with ANY budget without time restrains.

Seriously, now that I know his financial worth - his complaints now see not just ridiculous, but also mental.

reply

He doesn't have to make low-budget films. Don't forget that the Star Wars films he made were financed by him and are independent films with the exception of the first one.

Anyway, he is a creative consultant at Disney and makes appearances at the conventions/premieres. He's in his 70s so maybe he just wants to enjoy his young family and relax. The fans are ingrates, anyway.

reply

He made 4 billion dollars with his sale of his company to Disney. He has 5.5 billion dollars.
He can make any film he wants, experiment as much as he wants - yet all he does is complain how 'someone' is not letting him experiment.

He's a prick without any new good ideas who thinks that he does have good new ideas - yet with all the money that he has, he is unwilling to put his money where his mouth is - meanwhile complaining, complaining, complaining.

George Lucas is a wack - that's all there is to it.

Pretty much every interview that I saw with him lately (I saw a bunch on the day that I made a post here).
Here is one example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhhACgJJkc4

lol. He's making movies for himself now.
I wonder of he bothers to watch them.

reply

What movies?? I don't get it. Is he shooting midget porn or something?

reply

No one knows but he pretty much said in the interview that he's just gonna make experimental movies that he's going share between a small group of friends. I'd hate to be one of those guys. It's like I'd be obliged to watch them. Oh no he made another one.

reply

Lol...like if your freind baked horrible cookies constantly...
'Oh great...more...'
Too funny!

He should just release the experimental films on YouTube. I think he would be surprised at the number of people who would be interested.

reply

"If he had such great ideas, he would put his own money and make films"

Haha especially considering the fact that right now money is not what he misses.

Maybe he could remake THX1138. add in some cute little furry animals, or a jive-talking wise-ass rabbit-kangaroo-type creature.

his interview with charlie rose is fascinating

he condemns the oscars ignoring popular films

he explains why he left SWTFA

reply

I think he'll probably do some low budget. I like for him to work on stranger things. He would be perfect for season 2

reply

oh yeah the JJ Abrams style show

reply

Yeah, it would be great to see where he would take the upside down world

All of his updates to Empire Strikes Back were perfect. It remained the best of the franchise and was only elevated by the special editions.

reply

They were so minor, it worked. The others, not so much.

He's 73 years old by the official count, rich beyond the dreams of avarice, and he said he never liked the gruntwork of directing films. So I don't expect him to direct again, although if he does I will pay close attention to the results.

So, I expect he'll spent his golden years with philanthropy, producing films and funding interesting indies, tinkering over at ILM, watching his children grow up, playing Elder Statesman to the nerds, and generally doing whatever the hell he wants. I wish I were in his shoes.

He should remake Steamboat Willie but with Jar Jar Binks as the lead!
