Jude Law still thinks about being the butt of a Chris Rock joke at the 2005 Oscars

In 2005, Rock roasted Law for being "in every movie I have seen the last four years." In a new interview with Vulture, Law admitted that the burn hit deep. “I’m going to be really candid,” he said. “Chris Rock slagging me off at the Oscars was upsetting. It felt like, ‘F*ck, am I that guy that you point fun at?’ Obviously, I’ve realized since that a gag is a gag is a f*cking gag. Whatever, it could’ve been anyone.” After a moment, he added, “It was probably a bubble that needed bursting around myself. Like, ‘Oh, this could be brutal. This isn’t all plain sailing.’”

I guess that makes him kind of sensitive. It wasn't that much of a burn, so much as it was just the truth. I don't know why he still thinks about it - just don't be that guy or do and accept it, man.

Or perhaps the reporter or interviewer showed him the clip and asked him what he thought about it.

I'm sure that's what happened - from Law's response, it doesn't seem like he'd actually been ruminating on it for five years. But whatever the reason, I don't know why he would've said it was still upsetting - why was it ever upsetting? He was over-killing us with his presence in film for a while there and that's a fact. He must know this; he accepted the cheques. I don't know why he didn't just laugh it off or reminisce over his career.

Kind of reminds me of when Drew Barrymore was told by someone on a flight that they were sick of how many rom-coms Barrymore featured in at one point in time. While Barrymore was annoyed at first, she still admitted it and went onto direct and star in Whip It - something totally different for her. But then she was like, fk it, I like doing rom-coms and just went straight back to doing those.

I dont know if he is. From what I read, he said it was upsetting, not that it is, and it helped him change the way he lived in the spotlight.

I actually remember another joke Chris Rock made about Jude Law at an Oscar ceremony where Rock poked fun at Law being an unknown...something along the lines of "Who's Jude Law?", which later saw Sean Penn defend Law when he was up on stage. I don't know if it was the same Oscar ceremony, it may have even been part of the very same act.

That might help make it somewhat more understandable that Law still thinks about it, given that it wasn't JUST that gag.

I think rock said something like 'who is Jude law and why is he in every single damn movie I seen in the past 2 years'

Interesting.
