I think a IT 2 book should be made

IT could be more of a ghost that still haunts the losers club or something.

That's up to him. But I do have a feeling that one day after he dies, a lot of his standalone stories will probably be given sequels or turned into their own franchises, nothing like what he envisioned or wanted.

reply

I have always felt that another book WOULD be made. It seemed to me that Stephen King left the door wide open for another. Allow me to explain....
Toward the end of IT, wasn't Ben going about stomping on the eggs of the spider?
I always thought it would be interesting if he missed one...... IT 2 Lives!!!!
Hey! Stranger sequels have been made on flimsier premises.

reply

I might be alone, but I think it's best to leave at one book. Lord knows he wrote enough for two or three books in the one.

reply

No you are not alone, I’m with you. I have a lot of respect for artists who don’t fall into the gold mine which are the sequels and leave their story as a stand alone movie/book.

Well, King made a few sequels, but he doesn’t do it regularly. Sequels are easy money.

reply

They also dilute the original impact.

reply

definite NO from me regarding sequels to IT

the ending is beautiful as is.

reply

I honestly don't see how you could continue It's story and make it interesting again. The story's finished, plain and simple.

reply

Yes, a sequel would simply be a retelling and equivalent of a reboot of the original novel. It is a simple creature that feeds on kids, so there’s really no deeper meaning to explore.

In one of his other books (The Tommyknockers I think) a character is driving through Derry and notes that he sees a clown looking out from a storm drain but just shrugs it off as a hallucination.

Then in Dreamcatcher a character sees some graffiti that says “Pennywise Lives”

I’m not sure Stephen King is done with the character yet, two of the Losers Club meet the main character in 11/22/63 and they’re talking about “the clown” when discussing a murder.

1963 was only 5 years after the Losers Club encounter with Pennywise as teens. It was also 22 years before they returned to Derry and killed IT. So unless King were to tie Pennywise into a separate story not related to the events of the original, that’s really the only way it could work. But then the character would start following the lines of a recurring villain like Randall Flagg.

reply

I wouldn’t mind seeing Pennywise just pop up unexpectedly in a future novel even if he’s just playing a minor part, or even have books where he’s simply alluded to or given hints that he still might be there like it does in Dreamcatcher and The Tommyknockers

reply

I’m not opposed to the idea. Pennywise was an awesome character.
