So, top 5 favourite films of 2016?

Interested to see what people liked here.

I loved

Lion
Nocturnal Animals
Moonlight
I, Daniel Blake
and Julieta

the most. It's the year I've oficially embraced Amy Adams. And the first year in ages of having a Kidman film in my top five

reply

Manchester by the Sea
Lion
Silence
Hell or High Water
The Witch

I, Daniel Blake would be my #6. I haven't seen Moonlight, Jackie or 20th Century women yet. Was very disappointed with Arrival and found Nocturnal Animals a mixed bag.

quite a few I didnt see yet,

but my faves from last year are (in no particular order)

Hell or High water ( Close to perfect)

Lion ( Pleasantly surprised and brought me to tears)

Zootopia ( very clever film, interesting characters and smart dialogue)

The Witch ( Film got under my skin gave me goosebumps, let down by too much exposition at the end)

Midnight Special ( got into the 80's nostalgia before Stranger things didnt get the credit it deserved, Kidman should look out for Jeff Nichols, he's a keeper)

have yet to see some key players like Manchester by the sea, Nocturnal Animals and moonlight.

“Am I any good in this movie?", alleged Nicole Kidman quote- Australia Premiere 2008

LION
ARRIVAL
JULIETA
HACKSAW RIDGE
LA LA LAND

reply

Arrival
Manchester by the Sea
Love and Friendship
One More Time with Feeling
The Witch

I hated Nocturnal Animals. Even Laura Linney's performance did nothing for me :(

I am seeing La La Land next weekend (it was sold out yesterday and today) and I still need to see Moonlight, Jackie, Lion and Hell or High Water.

reply

1- Arrival
2- Aquarius
3- Lion
4- Manchester by the sea
5 - Elle (maybe because Isabelle Huppert made it better than it was...)

reply

Loved Elle too, maybe even more than Arrival in fact.

Can't wait to see Manchester.

reply

Figured I might as well post mine since I've seen all the nominated films I will see for the year.

1. Loving
2. Hell or High Water
3. Moonlight
4. Zootopia
5. Lion

I hated LaLa Land even though I love musicals. I felt it's a cheap imitation of what it's trying to pattern itself after. Mediocre songs, too many plot holes, absolutely no flow.

The only thing I liked about Manchester was Michelle Williams' big scene.

I think I'm going to be VERY bored Oscar night.
