One of those actors that keeps getting better

I didn't used to be such a big fan of TLJ. I didn't care for his work in Batman Forever (he was IMHO the worst villain of the Burton-Schumacher years - yes, even worse than Arnie), I thought his comic-timing was overrated in Men in Black, and I didn't think he deserved his Oscar for The Fugitive, especially in view of his competition that year (particularly Leonardo DiCaprio, Ralph Fiennes and Pete Postlethwaite) but in the last couple of decades or so (certainly the last fifteen years) he has consistently bowled me over with some of the most extraordinary performances in American film.

He was absolutely magnificent, and deserving of awards, in In the Valley of Elah and Lincoln, he was also incredibly affecting and powerful in Three Burials, and his Men in Black shtick grew on me by Men in Black 3. He even made up for his disastrous Batman Forever performance, by appearing to much more dignified effect in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Long may he continue to keep giving us these superb performances in seventies, and hopefully beyond.
