Proof On Why Ron Howard Is Annoying

He seems like a nice guy but, he annoys the crap out of me because he tends to jump on the bandwagon of mainstream goings-on and other people's ideas. To back up my argument somewhat:
1. CINDERELLA MAN - Let's make a glorious boxing movie the year after Million Dollar Baby wins best picture

2. ED TV - Let's make a movie about a guy who's life is a TV show, right after the popularity of The Truman Show

3. THE DA VINCI CODE - Let's make a movie about that really popular book that is selling millions of copies

4. A BEAUTIFUL MIND - Let's take an important issue such as schitzophrenia and simplify it by making the character have three imaginary people follow him around. And exploit it even more by making the delusions a plot twist.

5. FAR AND AWAY - Let's make a movie using the biggest married couple in Hollywood

But having said that, I absolutely looooove some of his movies like SPLASH, COCOON and even his more recent FROST/NIXON. But there's just something niggling at me telling me he probably made the latter after watching All The President's Men one too many times.

Does anyone else agree or am I just being a prick?

I especially agree on point no. 4 (for the reasons mentioned by you and many others) – I always considered him workmanlike, didn't hate much about his films and even enjoyed «Apollo 13 (1995)» and «Ransom (1996)» (although probably least because of his and him directing).

However, I find it quite ironic (or tragic?) that he would get an Oscar for one of his worst films (not that he should've gotten one for ANYthing he's done so far). I mean, they wouldn't even bother to have the stones on the go board make sense, for Christ's sake! (no attention to detail, whatsoever – goes to show how much he cares about the art of movie-making)

Also, I think I remember hearing him say somewhere he didn't even bother reading the biography of the same name. Can someone verify that?

That's just business my friend.

Like selling umbrellas in the rain or food to fat people.

Doesn't make him annoying. Just a sensible business man.

I lost much respect for Ron Howard when he did that horrible endorsement for Obama with Andy Griffith. And I watched plenty of Happy Days when I was younger.

Here he is is almost 60 and he is trying to play & bring back his character Opie with Andy Griffith as Paw and pushing "Mr. Obama"'s worthiness - what a piece of trash that was, it was beyond annoying too.

Sorry, you're full of it. The word you're looking for is what topical? As opposed to what, being out of touch? Boxing films get made all the time. Most movies take longer than a year to make. It simply is far easier to get a movie made when there is some sort of buzz, be it the concept, actors attached, popularity of the source material etc. That your reasons jump all over the place simply show you're trying to invent some fault in him to justify your dislike.

Oh, get over yourself! This is America, and Hollywood directors and actors have been involved with politics for decades; both liberal and conservative, yet everyone still goes to see movies based on their merit not the politics of the people who made them. If you can't respect him just cause he has a political opinion different than your's, then maybe your respect isn't worth having.

Well Said

Right on,Joeann, That endorsement turned me off as well. Hollyweird is getting even weirder. Andy is naive or just gullible & Ron needs his head examined.

I agree 100% with you, joeann. I lost a lot of respect for Ron Howard when he did that Obama infomercial.

I'm from Oklahoma and in one of my niece's history books they brag on Ron Howard being born in Oklahoma and all his accomplishments.
