Was his letter to Bryan Cranston a fake news item?

I remember when the Internet was abuzz with some story that Anthony was so taken by Bryan Cranston's Walter White portrayal in the final episodes that he wrote a personal congratulatory letter to him. I have since heard that this was all bullshit, much in the same vein as Pete Townshend calling Prince the best rock guitarist ever.
