When would you say her career went down hill?

I remember watching Rat Race back in 2002 and thought why the hell does Whoopi Goldberg have such a bit part role in this movie and later it dawned on me that her career was drying up. It seemed to be around the early 2000s when her career really started to sink after Girl, Interrupted.

I love Rat Race! But yeah, in about 2003. Still, she came back with an acclaimed Broadway show, HBO special, and guest starring roles on popular TV comedies like Everybody Hates Chris and 30 Rock. But after all her lead roles in films to doing mostly voiceover work was a bit of a shame, and unfortunately her well-received sitcom was cancelled because of its political bent. When she accepted The View it kind of solidified though, because she doesn't have time to do much, if any, other film, stage or television work, and subsequently she became more known for her antics and opinions on that show than for her immense talent. Still, I think she can bounce back slowly. Whilst For Colored Girls, wasn't lauded, her performance received great reviews, and the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning, box office smash hits The Muppets and Toy Story 3 came out recently, in which she had small roles.

I wouldn't say her career went downhill (to me it hasn't). I just felt that Hollywood wasn't ready for someone like her.

When would I say her career went down hill? The moment she learned how to talk!! I used to think she was an ok comic and somewhat of a mediocre actress, but why does everything she has to talk about on the "spew" have to be about her being black? She is a racist and hateful person. If a white person said 10% of the things she said it would cause riots. She's a loudmouth joke with no credibility anymore.

"Whoopie is a submediocore actress and a tremendously unfunny comic. "
AMEN to that! I never thought she had any real talent...just a lot of undeserved hype.

She talks about being black because she's black. Talking about being black and your experience in the world makes you racist? You're an idiot.

Your comment is ridiculous. "Hollywood wasn't ready for someone like her". Really? Wow! If so, they sure allowed her a good run of it then. For over thirty years she's been a recognizable name and face and for a huge chunk of that time at the top.
