He Really Hates the English, Doesn't He?
Gallipoli (which is admittedly brilliant), Pocahontas, Braveheart, The Patriot...
Then again, at least the English are in good company, in view of Gibson's feelings about Jews and 'the gays'...

No.
1. He once appeared in a film as a British WW1 soldier.
2. In Braveheart he could've shown Edward I kicking out all jews (happened in 1290)
3. Braveheart was based upon a Scottish account, Blind Harry, that WAS anti-English in tone
Braveheart is NOTORIOUS for its historical INaccuracy!
shareFair point with Edward I and the Edict of Expulsion, but it's not as if Braveheart depicted that travesty.
But in which film did he play a British WW1 soldier? If you're referring to Gallipoli, he was an Australian in that one, and the English didn't come out too well.
His Mum was Irish. He was named after a cathedral in her hometown and his middle name is also that of an Irish saint.
Of course he hates the English! Fair play to ya Anne Patricia O'Reilly!
So, you excuse bigotry?
Do you also excuse Mel Gibson's anti-Semitism, homophobia and racism. IMHO, they're all *INEXTRICABLY* tied. That he hates the English so much CLEARLY indicates a MASSIVE LINK between Anglophobia AND anti-Semitism. homophobia and racism.
Are you honestly surprised that a fervent traditional Catholic has such views? I don't know about his racism but homophobia and anti-semitism go hand in hand with such right wing leanings.
shareI believed you were excusing/celebrating his views, based on your last post. If you were merely making an observation about how and why he has such beliefs, you have my apology.
shareGibson is pro celtic and anti-germanic in his movies. Gibson is a psychopath so he does hate or love anyone. The dumb thing about celtic people's telling of history is that they try to blame germanic males for all the evil of colonialism but it is obvious that celtic people were the main ethnic group to kill and enslave and rape indigenous people.
shareCeltic Pride is nullified if said members can only speak in English. I've encountered Celtic pride postersconlinecfrom Northern Spain and France, but they admitted that they didn't speak their ancient tongue.
There are Irish, Scottish, and Welsh pride peeps who are somewhat fluent but their pride is based on appreciation of their heritage not some nationalist wet dream.
I'm 100% pro independence for Scotland, Ireland and Wales, if that's what their nationals wants as a majority. If I were a Scottish, Northern Irish or Welsh national, I suspect I'd want independence, and, so, as someone born in England, I perfectly sympathise with that desire. It makes complete sense to me.
What I *do not* sympathise with is ethnonationalist superiority, and any notion that one race/ethnic group of people is innately superior to another. By all means, I support political and geographical independence, but NOT the idea that the Scots are innately superior or fundamentally different to the English or Welsh etc.
How does Pocahontus present the English in a bad way?
