Mel used to be like Tom Cruise. Never made a bad fil...and was never bad in a role.
Just always top-notch, guaranteed great films and performances.
He's still great....but Hollywood never fully let him back in. Ironically, I think Harvey W. played a role in that blacklisting.

Mel needs an opportunity to be awesome again....even as just a bit player, as perhaps a character actor in a great film with a great story. Don't get me wrong....I love him in the action genre...he's still badass. But maybe try a scene-stealing bit role, like Mickey Rourke used to do. And like Sean Connery occasionally did.

Where's Mel's Medicine Man, or Finding Forrester....or Entrapment?

That's true for a while he was in hit after hit and most of them were good! The biggest kick in the guts is that he didn’t direct a film for ten years after Apocalypto, I think it’s in directing where his true talent is.

Top 3 are pretty easy and pretty obvious.
You can go any way and won't be wrong.

1. Lethal Weapon - Riggs was role and character that made him World Wide famous. And was his best acting job by far.
2. Mad Max - Mad Max was role that mad Gibson Hollywood star.
3. Braveheart - FREEDOM! William Wallace was role that earn Gibson Oscars. His accent was awful and was pretty wrong historically.
