2013 Oscar Nominations - Gere misses the bus

Full respect to the just announced Best Actor nominees. I was hoping Gere would land one as well but looks like he will have to wait longer.

I believe he deserved a Best Actor nomination for Chicago 10 years ago, especially when you consider the fact that almost everybody in that movie's cast, including John C. Reilly and Queen Latifah got acting noms.

I was hoping he would be nominated too. He deserved to be, Arbitrage was some of his finest work in years.

I would agree. I liked alot of his films and I was really hoping he finally get nominated. Like usual the Academy voters have bad taste. all the best supporting actor nods already won Oscars. anyone see that as fair?

I agree - they do have bad taste.

I believe that Richard Gere has reason to feel considerably miffed. He has been receiving the short end of the stick from the Oscar pundits ever since 1982. For 'An Officer And A Gentleman', both his co-stars Debra Winger and Louis Gosset Jr. were handed a nomination. Was Gere's performance less Oscar nomination-worthy than his co-stars or the other Best Actor nominees that year? I never felt so but that's just my opinion.

His words "I Got Nowhere Else to Go!" in the movie is something that keeps ringing in my mind after all these years.

They call me Eraserhead.

Didn't see this movie, will have to remedy that. I hope he does win an Oscar someday, he definitely had the talent. But, with most awards you also have to have the right role, and the right year (i.e the right competition/non competition), to win.

wasn't he banned from the Oscars ???

some politics stuff

The Oscar ban that was enforced on Richard Gere in 1993 was taken back in 2013.

He was invited to the 2013 Oscars and even made red carpet appearances along with the Chicago cast. This was probably an attempt to finally reward him with a nomination but there were other performances that were better so he missed out.

Banned from the Oscars? This is a real thing?
