When he was talking about how sick he got filming Casualties of War.
I wondered if that had thing to do with causing his illness.

reply

Right. That sounded like a very stressful period with a lot of illness. It could have harmed his immune system and made him more easily open to a serious disease. Weight loss....which he said he had....is a red flag for early Parkinson's so it is very possible.

It was really sad to see Richard Pryor when he was on. First he said that he had lost weight for a movie but could not stop losing weight....everybody laughed. [That can be one of the first symptoms of MS]. Then he said he was losing vision in one eye and people are still laughing!? and Johnny said oh, come on now, and he laughed. [Losing vision is one of the most common early symptoms of MS] Then he said he had an appt with a specialist to find out why he was going blind in one eye....people stopped laughing, realized he was not kidding, and Johnny moved on to other subjects. Knowing how crippled he became with MS, it was really upsetting to see that show.

Did you see the christopher reeve interview, that was really eerie

reply

Oh gosh, yes. It was eerie. He said he was allergic to horses and had not been on one since he was 12. Then, when he did ride one; he fell and broke 3 ribs. It may just prove that things happen for a reason....first, he is allergic to horses.....then when he gets on one after many years, he falls and breaks 3 ribs. WARNINGS in hindsight. But you know the old saying....if you fall off a horse..get right back up there and ride.

Still....that allergy could have been a blessing in disguise if he had paid attention to it.

I almost fell out of the bed laughing at Robin Williams and Johathan Winters on Carson last night. Two of the funniest people that ever lived. IMO

I don't think there are any shows from the 60's that were saved so I looked it up:

It is already known that due to tape reuse by NBC much of the 1960s are permanently lost, except for some kinescopes.

The only reason the rest were saved was that Carson himself put his foot down when he heard those shows were lost, and the rest of his NBC run was archived. Those are in the hands of the Johnny Carson Foundation, which has licensed content to Time-Life, Turner, and now Antenna. My best guess is that the foundation holds the rights and decides which shows to have Antenna air.
