What is up with his hate for his own characters?

He wanted Han Solo dead by Return of the Jedi. Ok, that is a heroic exit, could have been a good artistic choice.
But it smelled of "I'm too good for this crap, enough of this kiddie stuff".

He then makes 3 great Indiana Jones, which turn him into a superstar. Again, he quickly gets fed up with it and decides 3 is enough. He has better work to do than that.

I am still waiting to see such important art from Ford. His top work is Frantic, Presumed Innocent and Regarding Henry. Which he could have done on the side while shooting other legit Indy movies, instead of retiring it to wait for posthumous, too little too late crap like crystal turd.

Did he really think he would be considered cool for rejecting not one but two iconic roles like they were below him? What an ungrateful poser.

reply

What an ungrateful poser.

He's an ungrateful poser because he's not in love with han solo and indiana like you are? It's just a job to him.

reply

Well, you know I am just a poor bastard who can only dream of one "job" (or in Ford's case two) that nets me hundred of millions and lets me impersonate two of the most beloved characters in movie history.

I guess I could not grasp that, thanks for making me understand. Now go back to your wonderful job flipping burgers.

reply

What's wrong with flipping burgers?

reply

Nothing at all, just comparatively to a guy who defends an asshole spitting in the face of "just a job" netting him millions, it is not as wonderful. Don't you think?

reply

none of his roles paid "hundreds of millions" not even in total

reply

He's number 30 on the top 50 richest actors that have ever lived. His roles definitely paid him hundreds of millions.

reply

Lmao! Net worth does not equal “total of all salaries paid” 😂

reply

And where do you think his net worth came from?... SMH.

Where did you get that from? If anything, the exact opposite is true. Ford was the one who kept nagging for an Indy 4. It was Spielberg who didn't want to do any more Indy films, and Spielberg had the right idea.

reply

He doesn't "hate" his characters. He doesn't want to be typecast in a single type of role. Fortunately big paychecks make him change his mind.

reply

That is not the case.
He returned to Indy only when his star career was over, to try to resuscitate it, but it was too late, the movie sucked and so did he.
So it was not about the size of the check.
Once that failed, he returned to retirement only to try once again to exploit his iconic role with SW, and it was another epic fail.

He got what he wanted, and his comeuppance too.
Was it worth it?
Connery shot 7 Bonds and never got typecasted.
I guess Ford realized he is a much lesser actor so his fear got the best of him. At the dire expenses of Indy, and his own career too.

That wasn't his idea. In fact, he only agreed to do it on the condition that Han Solo would be killed off in the first movie.

Where the heck did you get the idea that Harrison Ford's career was ever over or even remotely in danger? He is a huge star beyond Indiana Jones and Star Wars. He doesn't need any help. He can pick and choose his roles.

reply

Which century are you writing from?

reply

If you're not a fan, you're not a fan, but he's a crazy busy actor:

reply

He doesn't hate his characters. He hates you.

reply

I think this is correct. He hates the super fan. The people that get obsessed with his roles.

But he definitely hates promoting movies and always tries to distance himself from his work as much as possible. He just wants to get high and fly his plane around.

reply

Fly? yes.
Land? no.
I agree that he hates his fans.

reply

he has always been grumpy man. it is part of charm. it is why his character like bob alfalfa and han solo work so well

reply

It is kiddie stuff. Not that Ford is fit for much else, but he can dream, can't he?

reply

they are trash roles for any real actor

he turned down jurassic park for that reason

reply

1 He is not much of a "real actor".
2 Both characters are great and part of great movies.
3 Any real actor can only DREAM of such iconic roles.

reply

He can dream.
But why such treatment for the characters that made him a superstar?

BTW, kiddie stuff my ass, go rewatch Raiders and Star Wars and tell me they are not aimed at adults.

reply

they are not aimed at adults

reply

Why are you denying the truth?
They belong to the wide category of action movies for adults, like Die Hard, Aliens, Lethal Weapon, Rambo, Mad Max, The Matrix, The Terminator, etc.
They are made for ADULTS.
Kids want to watch them because of that, because they are made for ADULTS.
Not the other way around, like you mistakenly seem to think.

reply

> They are made for ADULTS.

OK, stupid ADULTS with the minds of children.

reply

Well,they are amazing action movies.
It's no Bergman nor Fellini, if that's what you mean.
But they are still aimed at adults.
Unlike kids fare like The Goonies or Harry Potter or Pokemon.

reply

I don't see any difference.

reply

Look harder.

reply

He’s a hypocrite

reply

That is my take too. And a masochistic one at that.

reply

He is a grumpy man who only does acting for money. Looks like he doesnt enjoy it like all other narcissists. He doesn like doing interviews and stay in press. Occasionally he takes roles for money, does few publicity then goes to mind his own business.

He is not in love with his roles and is not obsessed with them. He wanted to stop doing Star Wars and Indiana Jones probably because they gave too much attention to him from fans and press kept asking him about it. So he was shutting it down. But then they kept doing new one and proposed him so much easy money that he couldnt resist since he loves his rich life and money have to come from something.
