Remake The Ghost and Mrs Muir - Make good Capt Gregg

In 1990 there was serious at talk at 20th Century Fox of remaking "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" with Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer in the leads, but the poor box-office for The Russia House killed it.

Think Colin Firth would make a better Capt. Gregg. Don't see Michele Pfeiffer as Mrs Muir. Natalie Wood played daughter but in TV show and book there were two children. Remember the TV series saw that before the movie. Was pretty good for tv and could expand on story though they made it present day 60s. Carles Nelson Reilly was more memorable as ancestor. Never read the book have to find it somewhere. Would actually like another series rather than a movie remake along the lines of Masterpiece Theater. That would be fun. Cant think what actress I would have as Lucy though.

I like Natalie Portman for Lucia. Or Rachel Weisz.

The only version I saw was the 1947 one with Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney. My Mom said there was a Television version with Edward Mulhare as Capt. Gregg, but, I've never seen it. Yes, I think Mr. Firth would play a convincing Ghost Captain.

I've seen the Rex Harrison version, but I don't think Colin could pull off that role, not enough personality to carry it off. He seems rather remote and stiff.

A Sea Captain doesn't show too much Emotion, They're usually dignified, so, I think Mr. Firth could pull it off.

I think Russell Crowe would make an excellent Captain. Or Clive Owen as well.

I would love to see this film remade. Colin Firth would be excellent as Captain Gregg and I think Rachel Weitz (she is so beautiful) would be wonderful as Mrs. Muir. It will be hard to top Gene Tierney however.

I can also picture Russell Crowe and Clive Owen too. Boy, we need really great love stories these days, don't we? It would be interesting to see Daniel Craig and Rachel make another movie together. Such a hot couple!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE The Ghost and Mrs.Muir. And find it ABSOLUTELY AMAZING that there has NEVER been a remake done of this Unique Love Story. The reason I love this film so much is 1 the Unique Love Story and concept of the book and film which was VERY UNUSUAL at the time and 2 I think it happens to be 1 of the 2 BEST films Rex Harrison EVER made. I also think Colin would make a wonderful captain. I think Catherine Zeta Jones could make a wonderful Mrs.Muir. And another choice for the part of the Captain could be I think RICHARD ARMITAGE

I agree with you totally. I do not know why it hasn't been turned into a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber! I am really showing my age here by that statement! This film is an all time favorite of mine also. Your casting choices are good too. Richard Armitage's performance in North and South was breath stopping! He would be a good brooding captain also. Back to Colin Firth, I can't stop watching his career because he is the perfect example of what an actor's career should be. I am on his boards a lot because he is such a classy guy!
