Favorite Movie/Series

Let me say, ever since seeing the 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini-series, I've been fond of Colin Firth. (Typical, I know.) However, as much as most will admit he played the part well—arguably the best—it is not my favorite portrayal from him. (Gasp!) I know he was supposed to be stodgy, and of few words; but I think I prefer Colin's roles in which he's more open/relaxed.

A movie I've come to like is "The Secret Laughter of Women," which I unwittingly stumbled upon his IMDB page. I noticed Nia Long was also in it and I grew curious. (Firth & Long, really?). I know Firth is known for his passionate movies...and this movie didn't lack such scenes. I also liked how blunt and comfortable his character was, despite the obvious prejudices in the movie. Not to mention, I've always loved how Colin's eyes say a lot without him having to utter a word. There was a lot of sexual tension here. This movie isn't as well-known in the US, and had gotten poor reviews for various reasons; which is unfortunate; but I otherwise enjoy it.

What's yours?

did not love the movie - saw it once described as a "non-starter" - but he is incredibly gorgeous in it.

Without a doubt, The King's Speech, which he won an Oscar for, was his most impressive and my favorite work of his.

I like Firth a lot but I do feel at times he's made some very bad choices in terms of film projects. I didn't care for the Secret Laughter of Women. I thought it was a poor script and a very flat romantic story propelled by the fact that he and Nia Long had zero chemistry. He was gorgeous in the film.

Pride and Prejudice will always be the role I associate with him. He embodies everything I always visualized in the Darcy character. And he and Ehle were fantastic opposite each other. It shows you can have smoldering chemistry without a touch and barely a kiss. He says so much with his expressions and his eyes.

I tend to like his supporting performances better in other productions and it really wasn't until Girl With a Pearl Earring that he made another lasting impression. Then came A Single Man. He was fantastic and in The Kings Speech just wonderful. And I liked that he had a lessor role in TTSS , and his character still made an impression.

I'm looking forward to him in The Railway Man(although I can't stand Kidman, I wish Rachel Weisz would have stayed), but this seems to be his film so I am hoping for another great performance. Seems like a potentially great performance.

I fell hard for him in A&E's Pride & Prejudice too. I have to watch The Secret Laughter of Women. Never heard of it. Sexual tension was all you had to say!! There's a third installment of Bridget Jones coming out next year. I know the film is going to suck, but I will still see it. Looking forward to his Woody Allen film too.

I loved Secret Laughter. It was the first film he made after his marriage. Here is a vid that captures great shots of him. Enjoy!

There is a new BJ book coming out this year, but the film is still not certain. There are still problems with the script. I know it is mentioned on the Imdb page, but this info is generally put up by members of the board and not the Imdb people. It could very well eventually come to pass, but Colin himself has told people not to hold their breath.
