Yes, I realized that too as I was watching the current season (6) and season 4 and saw that it was the same person! Odd to play two different characters on the same show. Maybe they thought we wouldn't notice. ;)

Since Sherilyn was suppose to be on the Jess spin-off and that fell through, the producers decided to use her for this role. When you have the chance to use an actress like Sherilyn Fenn you don't let it slip through your fingers. She still has a faithful following.

That is what Amy said. That she loves Sherilyn and she didn't care about the two different parts. It happens a lot in many others shows. The same actors constantly are cast in different episodes of L&O.
