Efeminate

I know lots of people back in the 60's used to consider him effeminate, especially the older generations (John Wayne, John Ford, Howard Hawks,etc...), and still women today, his voice, his less manly features in the face, his sensitivity, etc. And the same used to be said about McQueen and other new ones coming into Hollywood, it is interesting to see how each generation seems to perceive newer generation, the gender standard of men and women especially, now it seems like the word effeminate was taken to another level these days.

more estrogen in diets and stuff

reply

Well that young Eastwood fella there is just a plain sissy, ya hear!
-John Wayne, 1972

reply

That sounds like Wayne was pulling his leg.

reply

You should read up on what John Ford said about John Wayne and Wayne's "swish" when he walked....

reply

I don't recall that EVER being said about him, lol.

He used to get constantly criticized for being a macho stereotype. People were amazed when he started making films that weren't action oriented.

reply

I think that could easily have been said as part of a joke, meaning actually the opposite. That kind of humor was quite common back then.

I've noticed that there's a problem nowadays with humor. It has become too frequent that people take seriously sentences that were obviously said in a playful mood.

THIS is effeminate;

Starman, that fellow in the video isn't you, is it?!

reply

Starman folds him wittle tent and tucks him tail ‘twixt him legs and slinks off into the night, only to realize that him tail is too short to reach between him legs. Poor Starman. Poor, poor wittle Starman, and him, ah, shortcomings.

reply

He does seem to "hit and run", doesn't he.

reply

I think it’s more like flail and run, but I get your point.

Is it really flaming if the OP is a lying sack of feces?

reply

Do they have a factory that creates these guys?

They all look and act the same.

I can't take it.

reply

Yes, they do have a factory I think, Adler. It's located in a Mall somewhere. Its name is "Feminists R Us".

reply

They must be having a lot of sales!

Did you ever see Man of The Century?

Johnny Twenties was the main character. I love that film!!

reply

I haven't seen it. I hadn't even heard of it, to be honest. But I just watched the trailer, and it looks like a lot of fun.

reply

A little known film.

The main character is a delusional person who is a reporter and thinks it's the 1920s. However, he has the strong moral character of a guy from that period and so it works for him.

His coworker is a gay guy with a scarf and all the neuroticism but Johnny "doesn't get it" because people in the 1920s would not have known what that was. So, the gay guy is just baffled because his routine doesn't work.

reply

I just watched a bit of it on Youtube and one thing that struck me was that Gibson Frazier in profile is almost a dead ringer for T E Lawrence. If anyone ever dares to make another serious film about Lawrence of Arabia, I'd imagine he'd be a contender for the lead role.

reply

I loved that movie and will have to look up a pic.

I'm sure the poor actor would like a chance!

reply

I lived through the 60s. NOBODY said that.

They said that about Tiny fucking Tim.

reply

[deleted]

Yes, I don't remember anyone saying Clint Eastwood was effeminate, (the idea is a bit strange, in fact). Biff Tannen said his name was, but that was much later...

"Effeminate" wasn't the only word they applied to Tiny Tim...

reply

You are right. What they said about Tiny Tim ended in “. . . as a picnic basket.”

reply

I wasn't around then but I have grown to admire Tom Jones although I'm a rock fan.

His career got messed up by the SJWs of the time because he was "too macho". That's crazy because he is an amazingly passionate masculine singer.

He still is.

reply

No, buddy, Tom Testosterone Jones and Tiny Androgynous Tim were 2 TOTALLY different 60s personalities. Jones had ladies tossing their moist panties on the stage. Tim, known for singing Tiptoe Through The Tulips, had audiences howling as he married “Miss Vicky” live (on tape) on The Tonight Show in a marriage that could only have been consummated with a dildo.

reply

What does that have to do with anything I've said?

reply

I thought you thought I was referring to Tom Jones. I was not. I was talking about a marginal celebrity who called himself Tiny Tim. He was not a historically notable character.

reply

Oh yeah, he was embraced and Tom, who is goddamn awesome, was cast out for being a man.

All of this SJW stuff as been going on for a long time.

I was LITTLE back them but I remember Tiny Tim and being creeped out by him. I am glad I wasn't an adult in the 60s. I would have hated it.

reply

LMAO...EASTWOOD & MCQUEEN SHOULD NOT BE FOUND IN ANY POST TITLED "Efeminate"...THE RIDICULOUSNESS OF THIS THINKING IS MIND BOGGLING.
