There's one thing he has in common with Al Pacino

He's a great actor for the most part.

He was nominated for about 5 Oscars over a period of about 20 years for great performances, but he kept losing to actors who gave better performances but weren't as famous.

All his fanboys and fangirls kept bitching about how the academy needs to just give him an Oscar simply for being a great and famous actor, regardless of whether or not he truly gives the best performance of the year.

It got so annoying the academy decided they'd better give him an Oscar for his next film just to shut them up, regardless of how good his performance was.

So they gave him an Oscar for a terrible and extremely over-the-top performance, when every other actor that year was clearly much better.

But everyone thinks it was the right decision simply because he's a great and famous actor for the most part and was nominated many times before.

Deep down, we all know The Revenent and Scent Of A Woman wouldn't have even been nominated for Best Actor if Leonardo DiCaprio and Al Pacino already had Oscars.

This is why I don't take the Oscars seriously.

Don't insult Pacino like that. DiCaprio is an insanely overrated actor. I'd rather watch Pacino in Scent of a Woman than anything DiCaprio has ever done.

I never took the Oscars seriously.

Look at their entire history and it's nothing more than a circle-jerk of Hollywood elites patting themselves on the back. What makes it worse is that millions of Americans hang on to their every word as if they were some source of legitimate wisdom. But, this also applies to the music industry and other entertainment venues as well outside of Hollywood so it's not just the movie industry.

Didn't the Academy give an Oscar to Paul Newman for being a great actor?
No, it was the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. I thought it was something else.

All correct. Also, they are both of Italian ancestry and names.

But man, THIS is why you don't take the oscars seriously?
What about everything else they do every year to underline how little they understand and care about cinema?

Oscars=shit since ever, way before Pacino or DiCaprio.

Another thing in common is they are banging the same family. DiCaprio the daughter, Pacino the mother.

Academy has a habit of giving awards to people whom they feel are “due.”

Sean Connery in “Untouchables” is a good example. Dicaprio in Revenant. Pacino in “Scent of a Woman”

Scorsese got a lot of awards for Departed just because none of his films had won him anything at that point. Departed didn’t deserve it
