I can't remember the last movie I have watched with him in it.

Yup, he brought it on himself. It really is too bad, he had some real talent in addition to his natural good looks, and he's thrown both away.

reply

Wow, that is just fucking insane!

A truly tragic too typical Hollywood story, the exception being he used be one of Hollywood's brightest stars. For awhile he actually seemed invincible, he had always put in a consistently good performance regardless of how bad the film.

I always thought he was one of those GenX brat packers that could work hard and party harder (he used to own the VIPer room, fuck) but it looks like the lifestyle finally did catch up with him and he took that role from The Libertine a little too far.

Damn I can't get past that spending. How do you spend 30k month just on wine?! I have an uncle with a wine cellar and he always treated wine as an investment. A show-offish one for sure, but still an investment and not an expense.

I don't understand why financial woes equate to a fall from films? Harry Potter fans? It will blow over and if not, well it seems like a witch hunt. Ban him from films because he's difficult and spends too much money? Is this equivalent to Weinstein really? People giving Spacey flack for sexually harassing guys and a 14 year old, yet Polanski is adored and forgiven for drugging and raping a 13 year old. I can never get peoples mentality.

reply

Agreed. Hollywood actors still love Polanski for some weird reason. There is a type of hypocrisy that goes on in Hollywood. As for Johnny Depp. He is far from fallen. Still gets work and the last POTC was worthy of the series. He will be fine for work. His health though is another issue. He is in his mid 50's now. Smokes heavily and Drinks. If he doesn't stop soon he will develop COPD and liver disease.

Same thing with Woody Allen, both of them are very talented directors, so the industry supports them. People knew Harvey Weinstien had issues for years, they kept their mouth shut because he was making money. Should talented people be forgiven for their past transgressions though? It is a little iffy on the moral scale.

reply

I tend to think that we as a society, in general, should be more merciful and forgiving. It seems that this is something we have lost as a people.

When Hollywood is done with you they really go all out to make sure you are buried. And later bring you back as an obedient Mel Gibson or something.
