Why Hollywood won't cast John Cusack anymore

http://www.looper.com/52774/hollywood-wont-cast-john-cusack-anymore/

John Cusack has played some of the most iconic roles of all time. Even though technology has moved on, we'll never forget Lloyd Dobler's boom box serenade from Say Anything. Add to that Better Off Dead, Bullets Over Broadway, Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity and many more, and Cusack has charmed audiences for decades. Though the versatile actor has been in the business over 30 years, his career isn't what it used to be. So, let's take a look back and see why John Cusack hasn't graced our screens for a while.

The Blackmailer: There is a reason why this former A list mostly movie actor (John Cusack) doesn't work like he used to back in the day. It isn't that he doesn't want to work, he just couldn't because there were too many women who said no to being his co-star. Our actor, who was really closer to A+ list when he was big had a wide variety of women who wanted to sleep with our actor. He wasn't interested in that. He wanted to sleep with women he had something he could hold over their head. He loved getting dirt on them whether it was drug use or a secret abortion or what have you. He then would force them to have sex with him in exchange for not leaking the information to a tabloid. In one of his longer relationships where he well and truly destroyed the mind and career of an at the time, A list mostly movie actress (Neve Campbell/1998 to 2002), he knew there was a sex tape between her and a director (Wes Craven). It was a casting couch thing ("Scream") and the director is a well known a-hole. Our actress didn't know about the sex tape, but the actor had viewed it once and could describe the scene well enough to the actress that she believed him when he said the tape was in our actor's possession. He treated the actress like crap for years and degraded her and humiliated her and just used her until her spirit was gone. There was never any mat talk for her. Her story got out and since then, the actor has a hard time finding work. Plus, no one ever likes working with him anyway, so it was easy to find someone else. John Cusack/Neve Campbell/Wes Craven
DATED: Claire Forlani, Huma Abedin, Janice Dickinson, Melissa Gilbert, Jami Gertz, Lili Taylor, Susannah Melvoin, Uma Thurman, Gina Gershon, Minnie Driver, Alison Eastwood, Neve Campbell, Shoshanna Gruss (Jerry Seinfeld’s ex), Meg Ryan, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, Jennifer Love Hewett, Rebecca Romijn, Alexandra Kerry, and Brooke Bur

Did he piss off the wrong producer? Is he just really particular about the kind of films he wants to do? I remember a few years ago I saw he mentioned how the industry is pretty much superhero flicks though I mean there's still some gritty indie films here or there being made. That being said, why's he been doing his best to replicate Nicolas Cage's career for the past 5-8 years? Is he just doing films for the cash to fund his own passion projects or does he have a bad agent?

John Cusack has had a pretty solid career and given some great performances. Almost a travesty that he's only been doing schlock B-movies for nearly a decade now:

young actor who survived the 80s to become a far better actor and work with some well regarded directors in the 90s. I quite respect that he tended to go more for the work than simply do popcorn films.

I'm watching The Jack Bull which is nearly 25 years old. Pretty neat seeing him in a Western. I'm sure most folks know him from Say Anything or Better Off Dead but combing through his filmography you see neat films like Being John Malkovich and Grosse Pointe Blank and of course he would do bigger studio films from time to time like Con Air or 2012 but it's performances in films like say an Identity or Runaway Jury or The Grifters or True Colors that make me wonder what exactly happened to him to be doing VOD films now? He clearly showed range over the years of his career. I mean he was never an A-list star but it seemed more like he chose that himself.

Did he lose roles to Ed Norton/Mark Ruffalo? I know he's quite political but so are a ton of actors. Was he a Val Kilmer type of star that made it difficult to work with?

Rumor has it that he's a major asshole in real life, and made too many enemies to have any shot at a Brendan Fraser-style comeback.

But it's his sister Joan I miss. She's a delight, why isn't she playing saucy grandmas in every film being made?

reply

WAYTA? I saw him play Brian Wilson in a recent Beach Boys biopic. He was fantastic.

Recent? It came out like 8 years ago, lol
