I'm trying to think of movies other than Marnie where I liked Connery.

I am just not and never have been a fan of any of the Jim Bond movies, or the idea, although finally today we seem to have villains of the magnitude of James Bond villains with the Russian Oligarchs and the hard-line Republicans. Since they are practically the same mindset, I don't get why American Republicans who want a hard line nationalist authoritarian oligarchy don't just movie to Russia? Is it only to do with the weather?

Anyway, Marnie, was a great movie and Connery was good in it. Oh ... and Zardoz was brilliant as well but in a different way. Any others? What are your favorities. The Man Who Would Be King was good, but so 3rd wall broken it fails to be a real favorite.

He's very good in A Bridge Too Far. The scene where they are discussing drop zones can be watched over and over again. All the scenes in that film with him in are excellently done in my opinion.

Untouchables.

reply

unwatchable ;-)

Jessie in Family Business (1989)
Roberts in The Hill (1965)

i'll have to check those out. The ones they made to cash in on his celebrity, others mentioned here are to me not worth watching, but those sound interesting. There was a point there where he was in so many movies ... but then he was upstaged by Michael Caine who is all over the place even still.

Robin & Marian

Robin & Marian and also The Man Who Would Be King and Zardoz. Mid-1970s Connery was the best.

reply

Agreed.

I liked the movie "The Man Who Would Be King" pretty much, but Connery and Caine seem like Laurel and Hardy in it now watching it again.

i will have to check out Wind and the Lion, don't know how I missed that one.

reply

highlander, the rock, finding forrester, wrong is right, time bandits, outland, and the presidio were all pretty enjoyable imo.

reply

Sorry, no offense, but I hated all those nothing manufactured corporate movies.

You should go for The Avengers (1998). The movie is brilliant and weird in all the right ways.

reply

No Offense, but I really hate that comic book garbage

reply

Comic book?

But for the record, I was of course joking when I mentioned this famous flop as a good movie. A seriously wonderful Connery film you should check out, that I don't see mentioned here:

The First Great Train Robbery (1979).

There is a scene towards the end of this movie on board a train that is pretty mind blowing because Connery is doing his own stunts, which seems highly dangerous.

reply

He's probably thinking of the Marvel "Avengers" stuff.

reply

That movie has nothing to do with comic books. It's based on the British TV show from the 1960s.

reply

Steed and Emma ... that was a great show in the 60's when I was a kid.
