Edinburgh "accent"?

When I visited and stayed in Edinburgh I never came across anyone, particularly older people around Sean's age that had his type of accent. Is his accent really unique to Edinburgh?

If you look up videos of the Edinburgh/Scottish accent on YouTube then you'll see/hear that it's quite different to how Connery sounds. My father grew up in Edinburgh but moved overseas when in his late teens, and he didn't sound anything like the YouTube accents. Watching videos of Connery it seems he and my father sound quite alike.

I can only think that Connery and my father became more cultured through being away from Edinburgh a lot and having become accustomed to different accents and such, so it affected how they spoke. But the one thing that always shone through when my father spoke loud and stern was the word "No" which came through as "Naw".
