Im sure this has been asked a million times but...

Does anyone know why he stopped acting 11 years ago after League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? I miss him!

reply

Where are you sean connery?

reply

I don't know, but I would like to ask why you started multiple threads asking the exact same question??

reply

To play golf and chill with his wife! Some actors just want to enjoy their later years, others like Caine and Hopkins carry on working til they drop, I'm glad the great Sean Connery had a retirement to enjoy but am equally impressed by the choices the likes of Caine and Hopkins have made too.

reply

Connery didn't announce his retirement, but once it was clear he was gone, he did say that The League movie was sort of a "last straw" for him. He was used to working with efficient producers and talented directors and felt this particular project was poorly done, not worth his time, etc. He had been on other such projects ...but this was it.

So he took that as reason to go.

I suppose he's less willing to put up with things than Caine, too.

Emeritus---ecarle, per usual the voice of reason & moderation.

Always.

Thank you!

He's had quite fa fabulous carrier.Yes, maybe it was time for him to enjoy the rest of his life without having to meet deadlines, go on location, etc. I've enjoyed all of his films.

reply

Just like Gene Hackman, he decided the time had come to hang up his hat and enjoy his retirement. It's too bad because I miss them both but wish them well.

reply

James Bond!!! Forever! I miss him too.

League was apparently the worst film he ever worked on, behind the scenes, and was the latest in a series of bad production experiences. He grew disenchanted with modern filmmaking and could no longer understand the scripts. Simply put he was fed up with the business. It's rumored he also has failing mental health but nothings ever been presented evidence wise. I suspect one of the large issues with aging actors is eventually, everybody you knew is dead or retired and you're suddenly making movies with a bunch of kids and it's not fun like it used to be.

reply

I’ll go with the failing mental health angle.

He was offered 15% of the gate to play Gandalf in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, yet he claimed the SCRIPT made no sense.

As if League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’s script made more sense. 🙄

15% of the gate turned out to be $400,000,000.

What kind of RETARD...turns that down? 🤷‍♂️

I rest my case.

reply

Well the LOTR were a huge gamble that many thought would fail miserably and take down the studio with it. Turns out it was whopping mega success. But it could have turned out poorly. Hell, Sean's involvement might have tanked it. Ya never know. Fate's weird.

reply

Agree, whole-heartedly! While I love Connery's performances, even outside of Bond, I just can't picture anyone other than Sir Ian McKellen in the role of Gandalf. He flippin' OWNED that role.

reply

I heard it’s because nobody ever let him wear his cool Zardoz outfit anymore. And Gandalf would have been dope as hell wearing only red speedos!

LOL
