The Trust (2016)

If you're a fan of Nicolas Cage and liked some of his recent work (Frozen Ground, Joe, Drive Angry, Bad Lieutenant), even if it's a whacky performance, you should definitely check out 'The Trust' with Elijah Wood.

The movie is not a classic but the first half is pretty funny, mainly because of Nicolas Cage. There are a lot of fun scenes with Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood characters.

We also got Army of Ony (Directed by Larry Charles), Snowden (Directed by Oliver Stone) and Dog Eat Dog (Directed by Paul Schrader) coming out this year. Let's hope we can have more good stuff from this great actor.

I'm not a fan of his late work but I just saw the movie trailer and it seems he is getting his stuff together. The acting seems solid and, most important, sober.

The Trust fits in with Dying Of The Light, Pay The Ghost and The Runner. All movies that showed some potential and make it appear that Cage is trying to pick more challenging and interesting roles again (well, maybe not Pay The Ghost) but ultimately have too many flaws that make them disappointing. The Trust is probably the best of them though. That movie feels like with a few small tweaks it could have been very good.

Almost everything he puts out these days is terrible. There are a few exceptions though, The Trust is very good and its a pity its been lost amid all the crap. Joe and Drive Angry are good too.

Unfortunately Army of One is appalling.

@ francishooks... Oh, I totally agree with you. I thoroughly enjoyed 'The Trust' and surprisingly, loved the chemistry between Cage and Wood. Yes, it had its faults, however, I was in the right mood, at the right time. I saw a bit of the old Nic shine through here and there. A Cage comeback?! We'll have to wait and see.

On David Gordon Green's direction on 'Joe (I)', it was a compelling and unfeigned story, that had me immediately engaged. Cage was captivating . I was thrilled Cage took this role, and what I witnessed of Cage's 'Joe' was both captivating and powerful.

I don't know if he just loves acting so much he'll do anything these days, or if he should sack his agent and have some-one 'proof read' the material, before handing it or telling Cage about it. Maybe he just loves working and to hell with the script, or lack thereof. I know he still has it in him, and I personally, would love to see the vulnerability and the no-holds-barred, he showed in 'Leaving Las Vegas'. Still my favorite Cage movie.

Well at least he hasn't yet descended into the Danny Trejo/VinnieJones/Steven Seagal hell of releasing three new unwatchable films per week!

Seriously - I think these film stars get used to a lifestyle that is expensive to maintain. Hence the necessity to make more and more and more films!

Eric Roberts now makes so many films he has to take special drugs so he no longer sleeps - he just films 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - the man is in pain, I tell you!! (so are the people watching the films, of course!!!)

Oh god, I couldn't stomach another film from that lot. John Travolta is heading the same way, which is funny as I never really thought he could act that good to begin with. I see a Danny Trejo advert every now and again (when I'm not watching movies), and I can't help but cringe! WHY?? George Clooney and his coffee adverts, really, are you THAT desperate?? To me, it's lame and kinda comes across as desperate. Same with all the women doing hair and rejuvenation commercials, that we ALL know have been photo-shopped!! What happened to growing old gracefully... oh yeah, Hollyweird!

I do remember Nicolas Cage once stating, he did quite a few 'blockbusters' purely for the money, so when the time came, he could work on anything he just got a kick out of, even if it wasn't what people expected of him. To that, I say kudos! We don't always have to like what they do, but imagine churning out the same crap all the time... like Tom Cruise!! I mean, early on, I liked his acting, now it's just stunts and special effects, zero acting. And he get paid more for not acting than anyone, go figure?!

PS: About their lifestyle, I totally agree with you. We've taught all our kids, it doesn't matter what you make, don't buy more because of it. I never get why, if, say you get paid $20 million, then you go buy a $40 million house?? You're right, they're churning out crap after crap, because they're having to sing for their supper! Sad.
