Funny Gregory Peck story

I read this in the New York Post's (or as I like to call it, the "New York "Hoax") page 6 gossip column about 20 years ago. I never forgot it.

Gregory Peck and his wife, Veronique, were at a black-tie function in Los Angeles. While in conversation with a group of friends and admirers, Peck mentioned that it was getting harder for aging actors like him and Charlton Heston to get work. A mid-twentyish year old man, who was listening nearby, chimed in, "Did you know that Charlton Heston is gay?" As he turned to see who made the comment, Peck intoned out loud, "Chuck Heston, gay?" He then looked the eavesdropper up and down and said, "That sounds like wishful thinking on your part, young man."

I heard that same story but involving Montgomery Clift and Clifton Webb. Very conflated, those two.

(Just joking, need you ask, wrf!) 

reply

I can just imagine Peck's tone when he said that.
