No more message boards????

Is that really happening? Because of some lousy trolls?

reply

I've just heard, that there are TWO petitions, to keep the IMDB message boards open...

Here are the links:

https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/petition-to-keep-the-imdb-messageboards-going#

https://www.change.org/p/imdb-stop-imdb-from-disabling-the-message-boards?recruiter=27917358&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink

I really don't want to see IMDb close any of these message boards down. I've been posting on them for over 11 years, and I have never seen another site that has such well rounded topics of discussions... I love being able to talk about just about anything here, and I don't think there really is a place that compares to IMDb. We need this place to keep going!

I know it is a long shot, because most of the time petitions don't work... But every once in awhile, they do... and it can't hurt to try...

I signed BOTH petitions!

Please sign them too, and spread the word about them through the other Message Boards...

The more people that sign them, the better!

I've signed both petitions but I have little hope. I'll miss this and the people I've come to know and think of as like-minded friends. I'll even miss the few with whom I disagree.

Fingers crossed.

All the best to all of you,
Denis

I will miss you, Denis. You are a wonderful presence on Marilyn's board.

Skipper--thank you. I'm trying not to become ridiculously emotional, but...I'm becoming ridiculously emotional.

I (and I think many people) feel this deeply. It's a way to connect. Also, for those of us who love our particular stars (Marilyn here) these boards are a way to correct untruths, focus on the work rather than myth. It's a big loss, all around.

By the way, I have saved my entire IMDB history of commenting. As the end will likely occur, I think it's a good idea.

Best,
Denis

___Well, this just sucks. I for one will never go to any "alternate" site. I despise twitter, facebook and would never go where the Donald hangs out. I enjoy this forum and see no real reason for it to end. It will leave a huge hole in our collective ability to communicate, so perhaps that is the underlying issue. Aside from that, I see this type of move as the beginning of the end for IMDB, at least as it has been known. Even on Pinterst, you can leave a short comment, but those are almost always cleared. That is a great site to at times discover unseen photos, but not really designed for individual comment. Again, it appears there is a desire to eliminate individual thought. Very sad, and serious the direction all this going in. I'll sign both, but have little hope for it. I will deeply miss everyone.

Ah, Dorian--no alternate sites for me, either. Who wants to leave a short comment? I want to carry on and explain every small detail of the facts--as I see them. I've grown frustrated at times, with people deliberately picking fights or flooding the boards with OT subjects. But things were always righted in the end. These are the kinds of debate/message boards that can teach a lot about dealing with people with a different opinion. It can be done, it can be beneficial, it can be enlightening. There's no reason for this.

This is one of my favorite forums, probably where I first started posting.  I will miss the discussion with you all, and also learning lesser known facts that seem to have been lost in time in favor of salacious rumors and gossip. There are many imdb spinoff message boards being made. I am also a member of thisismarilyn.com and everlasting-star.net, but the second is a closed forum now.

http://imdb2.freeforums.net/ has potential

I'd like to second Skipper's message. I've really enjoyed your posts, Denis. Honestly. They're always well written and informative. I've learned a lot from them and will miss them. I haven't posted here in a good long while, but I did make it point to come here to let you know this.

I'm honestly not surprised IMDb has decided to get rid of the message boards. Far too many sites are being overrun with racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. trolls and many message boards are being used to recruit people for hate groups. It's getting so that no place is safe from hate speech and (ugh) boring political talk to inevitably ends in hate speech. It's probably easier just to ditch the old platform than spend hours a day dealing with the endless junk. I'll miss it to some degree because there's almost always a question I was curious about that someone else has asked. I also loved learning new trivia about a movie or an actor. Oh well. I won't be moving on to whatever IMDb has an alternative. I'm old and not at all into social media.

Take care MM fans!
