One of the most intelligent actors

I watched an interview with him and Dick Cavett. Mitchum was drunk on his can, but what struck me was how incredibly intellectual he was! And not in a Dick Cavett preening kind of way, just like his masculinity -- he had nothing to prove, he just WAS.

And in his younger pictures, oh what a stunner he was! He could play a malevolent, muscles-for-brains ape, but he clearly was intelligent enough to have played one of Cary Grant's roles. The difference was that Cary Grant could never have played a malevolent, muscles-for-brains ape.

They broke the mold.

I wonder what roles he turned down, and if they covered a broader range. I know Faye Dunaway wanted him to play the Howard Beele part in NETWORK.

He was a living doll. Soooooooooo sexy....and of course, a talented professional.

He didn't suffer fools gladly, and I hear she was murder to work with.

I watched "El Dorado" the other night and was struck by how well he could do physical comedy. He really didn't seem to have any limits to what he could do, and Hollywood only used a fraction of what he had to offer.
