Of all the films Sophia Loren has been in, which has the most prestige according to film critics?

Good question...

I guess Two Women or A Special Day. The first won her an Oscar, and she’s superb in it, but I think the second is her greatest performance of those I’ve seen. She is simply wonderful opposite the equally brilliant Marcelo Matroianni.

I saw Two Women a long time ago and it was excellent - but I don't think I'd ever watch it again, and I don't remember seeing A Special Day. But I'm not sure Sophia Loren has an iconic role. There are a whole bunch of 60s - early 70s films that used to be on TV a lot that for me define her but I don't think any one of them is the iconic role.

Maybe... she is undoubtedly an icon and superstar, but no one role truly jumps out, as you say. I guess she is one of those stars who is bigger than the parts they played.

A Special Day truly is a lovely film, though.
