If he was alive today...

Do you think his movies would be full of graphic sex, nudity and violence?

reply

Good question - dunno. On the one hand I'm guessing probably not. I suspect there would be hints, sequences that head towards it but we'd never actually get there. Because he was the master of suspense and never quite seeing the expected is more effective than the actually showing it - well, most of the time anyway.
On the other hand I suspect if he'd had the chance to show all of Janet Leigh in shower he would have done exactly that.

reply

I don't think it would be graphic but very much aluded to, I do think Scarlett Johansson and Margot Robbie would feature in many of his movies though.

reply

Or perhaps Charlize Theron? She has that kind of beauty.

reply

Yeah, he sure loved the blondes, I wonder who the leading men would be?

reply

That's a tough question because leading men are so different these days. It may be my Welsh bias but the first to occur to me are Ioan Gruffudd and Matthew Rhys.

reply

No. I think he'd be at the level of whatever he needed to tell his story. Probably would have been a nip slip or two in Psycho. But Rear Window would probably be about the same. Vertigo: largely the same as it is now, I would think.

He pushed the envelope, but I don't think it was to shock. I think it was to be truthful. After all, one of his biggest digressions was the toilet flushing.

reply

If he was alive today he'd be scratching frantically on the inside of his coffin.

reply

Without a shadow of a doubt buried in the family plot, and in a frenzy trying to get out!

reply

If Hitchcock were alive today, he'd literally be 120 years old. That said, who's to say his films wouldn't be full of R rated material?

reply

If he had been born after 1940 or so, yeah.

reply

Frenzy - made in a post-Bonnie & Clyde era where graphic violence was becoming the norm - is by far his most violent movie. He only made one film after that, the comedy Family Plot, so we’ll never know if he would have continued in that direction, but it seems very likely that any further films would have contained stronger content.
