Hitchcock or Scorsese?

In my opinion the two best filmmakers of all time, which one is better?

Hitchcock by a mile.

I quite like Scorsese but Hitchcock is better.

I decided. I saw.

I did see that Hitchcock made 10 movies rated at least 8/10. And I did witness that Scorsese made 11 movies rated at least 8/10.

Scorsese wins. He is... BETTA. There can be no question.

Hitchcock. Goes to the wolves. Good for the wolves. And the Third World. And the Rosetta.

Both awesome, but I think they are in different ballparks. I would have to go with Hitch

I agree with you that they're the two greatest filmmakers, but there's a significant gap between Hitchcock and Scorsese. I highly doubt I'll live long enough to see a director eclipse Hitchcock, largely because not only was he so good, but he was also so prolific.

For reference, these are my top 20 directors (and I have an expanded list in my profile):

1. Alfred Hitchcock
2. Martin Scorsese
3. Stanley Kubrick
4. Billy Wilder
5. Quentin Tarantino
6. Steven Spielberg
7. Francis Ford Coppola
8. Andrei Tarkovsky
9. Ingmar Bergman
10.Akira Kurosawa
11.Mike Nichols
12.Sidney Lumet
13.Roman Polanski
14.The Coens
15.Sergio Leone
16.Christopher Nolan
17.Joseph Mankiewicz
18.Milos Forman
19.Clint Eastwood
20.Alejandro Inarritu
