Who was your favorite blonde of Hitchcock's?
They were all great and it's very hard to choose. I was just wondering what all of you fellow Hitch fans thought.

shareAtypical of his cherished archetype, Barbara Harris. The icy blonde was never a fetish of mine. Kim Novak as Madeleine with her hair up or in a robe at the fireplace is for me the most physically beautiful of the blondes...hauntingly so. I can see why Scotty's heart never healed. Still, for pure charisma I have to go with Blanche. Harris is endlessly watchable, wonderfully inventive, and steals the movie. I'd rather watch her than the all the ice queens combined.
shareHer Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco . . .
shareTippi Hedren who brought so much glamor to The Birds and then gave a great performance in Marnie.
shareWell, I want to say a word for Carole Lombard. She was a great performer. Her film for Hitchcock was pretty atypical for him, though it was a fine showcase for her talents. Hitchcock has claimed he made it as a favor to her since they were friends.
I also really liked Joan Fontaine, though she played characters who contrast with the idea of a 'Hitchcock Blonde.'
Other than Lombard and Fontaine, who admittedly don't really fit the archetype of a 'Hitchcock Blonde,' my favorites are Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman, Janet Leigh, and Eva Marie Saint.
Yes, I realize I just named six different actresses. It's pretty hard to name a favorite. Is it too late to add Kim Novak to that list...?
You can add as many as you like . . . however, from what you posted it seems Carole Lombard is your favorite . . .
shareActually, I hesitated to list Lombard at all because I don't really view Mr. and Mrs. Smith as a typical Hitchcock film and her character really wasn't the type of character associated with 'Hitchcock Blondes.' I just wanted to acknowledge her because I do enjoy her as a performer. I didn't figure any one else would bring her up.
If I were to really try to pick just one favorite of a 'Hitchcock Blonde' who appeared in a suspense or spy/thriller film, I think I'd go with Grace Kelly for Rear Window and Dial M for Murder.
