What are your favorite movies of his?

Which ones do you think are his best?

reply

The Ten Commandments
Planet of the Apes
Ben-Hur

reply

I got to go with "Ben Hur"

I can't say for sure what my favourite movie is. Probably Planet of the Apes, but there are some good ones to choose from. One roles of his that I really liked was the Player King in Hamlet (1996). It's a tiny role, but it was memorable to me.

reply

Planet of the Apes is the one I enjoyed most. Spartacus was good too.

reply

Catbookss--you have Heston mixed up with Kirk Douglas in "Spartacus".

reply

Whoops. I do tend to mix the two up. Okay, then just Planet of the Apes.

reply

He probably said "I am Kirkdouglas!" to protect the real KD from the bad guys looking for him. That's why she mixed them up.

I like all of his lead roles, but two supporting parts also stand out. He was very likable as Steve Leach in "The Big Courntry", although he was an antagonist to Gregory Peck as the lead. And he was both funny and menacing as wicked Cardinal Richelieu in "The Three Musketeers". Heston had a combination of charismatic masculine gravity, humor, integrity, athleticism, and acting talent that is hard to find in today's stars.

reply

Oh yeah, I love The Big Country, and he was a good bad guy who later turned out to be not-such-a-bad guy.

I haven't seen a lot of Heston's films but I plan on watching more
1. Ben-Hur which I just finished watching, instantly becomes one of my favorite films, he won a well deserved Oscar
2. Planet of the Apes, another one of my favorite films, first in a trilogy of quality SF films starring Heston
3. Soylent Green, a surprisingly moving and thought-provoking film
4. The Omega Man, another well made film, certainly better than the Will Smith remake

I know I have watched The Ten Commandments but I was so young I remember very little of it.
