Her engagement to William Holden ended because he'd had a vasectomy? Was that a very common thing for men in the early 50's?

He must have been a serious player to have a vasectomy - and then lose the love of his life, Audrey Hepburn!

I wasn't here in the early 50s and do not know whether a vasectomy was very common among men. However, I believe it was NOT. Many men don't like condoms and I believe William Holden and Clint Eastwood were 2 of them.

Bill never recovered emotionally from the abrupt end of the Audrey Hepburn romance. He was also married at the time of their intimacy.
